Motherfucker.

“Dude, she just got out of the hospital. I don’t think she wants to—”

“Oh, no, I do,” she cuts me off, her damn smile as wide as Chase’s. She turns to face him after watching the screen. “How bad do you think my team’s gonna shell them? Already second inning and we’re up by three.”

I stare at the TV. “It’s only the top which means shit. Plus, you have hometown advantage.”

“Is someone back there making excuses?” she pokes.

Chase joins in. “Never a good sign having to make up shit for a losing team. I say they choke by at least six runs—”

“Six runs?” I scoff. “Give me a fucking break. They don’t even have their best hitter playing, and they’ll still smoke the shit out of them. Your team sucks. I told you, stats don’t lie.” Fuck this. I throw myself into the chair. “You know what? How about you put your money where your mouth is?”

Makayla chuckles. “Well, I have no money so. . .”

Fuck. I’m an asshole. “Fine, I don’t need your money anyway. Bring on the bet. What’s it going to be?” My temptress kicks it up a notch when Chase leans in and whispers something in her ear, causing a round of giggles. “What the hell, man?”

“You wanna bet? I’ll bite.” She stifles a laugh. “You better hope you win this one because you’re not going to like what I have in mind.”

The way Chase smiles next to her, I have a feeling I’m not either.

“Just get the fuck out.”

“Dude, you love me—”

“Out!” I yell, fighting not to knock him out.

“Can I at least take a piece of pizza to go—Jesus, fine. Going.”

“Oh, come on. You’re being a sore loser.” Mak chimes in. No, I’m being a pissed-off sore loser who’s wearing a girl’s tank top with a sucky team logo on it because my team lost! And to hell with Bridget for bringing the damn shirt over.

“It does look nice on you. Definitely your color.” I throw a glare over to Makayla, who covers her mouth to conceal her laughter.

“Okay, just one more picture, and I think we’re good.” Chase lifts his phone and snaps a photo. My teeth grind. I take a threatening step toward him.

He pulls his phone away and jumps back. “Fine. I guess the ones I have will do.” He shoves his phone into his pocket.

“I see those pics anywhere, you’re a dead man.”

“Wouldn’t think of it. Simply blackmail for when I need more help with essays.”

“Don’t forget to send those to me when I get my new phone,” Makayla says.

“Will do. So. . . yeah. . . I’m just going to see myself out.” He waves to Mak and then looks at me and decides against it. I try to rein in my anger as the door closes.

“You really do look nice—”

“Don’t even.” I take a deep breath and exhale through my nose, then I turn to her. “Payback is the sweetest form of revenge, babe.” She sucks her lip between her teeth, and I start chanting in my head again.

Hands to yourself.

Her cheeks are flushed from laughing. And she’s adorable as hell with those little mittens over her hands. I may want to flip her over and turn her perky ass red, but, damn, I also want to cuddle her in my lap and hold her.

“You sure about that? Don’t want me to hold you and tell you everything is going to be okay? You sure wear a pout well.”

Damn her. “I’m not pouting. Just stating the facts.”

“And those are?”

“You’re not going to get away with this.” I take the last two steps separating us and peer down at her. “And I always win.” Her lips part as she inhales a small breath. God, I want to kiss her. Fuck her. Own her. Every little noise she makes, I want to claim as mine. I place my hands on each side of her hips and bend down. I won’t go further than teasing her. I can’t. But damn, do I want to.

Just as I expected, she wets her lips. My eyes fall to her mouth, and I take a deep breath. The things I want to do to her cloud my vision. I have to rein myself in. “It’s getting late. Last chance for that sponge bath.” Her pupils dilate. She fails at masking her interest. I know she would love that bath and all the perks that come with it.

“I’d actually love one,” she starts, surprising me. Fuck, I needed her to say no. “Just thinking about it, I bet you would do a good job working out my aches. The hidden ones.” Her mitted hand slides down her thigh to work its way back up. “I’m so sore.” The sound she makes sends a jolt straight to my cock. He springs to life, throbbing against my jeans. “No need to be gentle. I definitely need it rough right now. Right here.” Her hand slides higher, mere inches from rubbing at her sex. “And then, when you’re done making me all better, I’d love for you to be right next to me when I make that phone call to Hannah.”
