As we started making our way across the room, I leaned closer and whispered, “Do we really look like we belong with the rest of them?”

“No.” His immediate answer made me feel better even though I wasn’t sure why.

“Okay, good.” I thought it might be because we were both the aiming to blend in types and none of the rest of them were.

Even when I was doing the art modeling, I’d have never stood out like they did fully clothed.

“It’s going to be fine.” Leif might’ve been saying that to himself, but I took it to heart too.

“Yes.” Because he was the Dom and he’d fix anything that made me insane or that made me want to crawl under the table. “It’s going to be fine.”

Judging by the smiles that got wider and the friendly but curious looks we got as we approached the table, we didn’t look as worried as I felt.

“You made it.” Kenton was just as bubbly as he’d been the first time I’d met him as he dragged what seemed to be his partner around the table. “And I finally get to meet your Dom. This is so exciting.”

Not the word I’d have used, but it would work.

****

Every time I started to think I’d overreacted, someone would open their mouth and remind me that I’d been right.

“I can’t remember if I’m not supposed to ask about how long you’ve been a pup or how long you’ve been with your Handler, so answer the one that’s okay.” The wide-eyed model was definitely one of the pups, but I couldn’t remember his name for the life of me.

I could almost feel Leif’s brain trying to come up with a polite answer, but he wasn’t very fast, so I kept chewing the bite I’d just taken of my burger and raised one finger. Yep, I could chew forever and then it would be fine.

“For fuck’s sake. Both. I said both.” Eli rolled his eyes as half the table snickered and the other half looked over to see what they’d missed.

“Oops.” The pup was so cheerful it was hard to be frustrated, especially when I couldn’t tell if he was playing dumb or not.

“It’s not the time that’s important it’s the quality.” Kenton looked like he was trying to help but I wasn’t sure what he meant right off the bat. “Them having a deep connection and lots of fun orgasms are much more important.”

Oh.

I’d have felt better about the whole situation if he hadn’t been looking at me like he’d asked some kind of question.

He hadn’t…had he?

Eli’s frustrated curse said I wasn’t the only one seeing the nosy expression. “He doesn’t have to talk about his personal life. We’re showing him now nice we are.”

That got enough snickers around the table that even Leif chuckled and couldn’t resist teasing Eli. “We’ve seen how nice you are.”

I was pretty sure he meant how nice they’d been to us at the dinner but Eli snorted. “We know.”

My face flashed so red it hurt and for some reason that made the food in my throat swell to three times the size it’d been when I’d tried to get it to go down. The math stopped working and I started to choke.

It only took a second to figure out how to swallow again, but unfortunately, that was just enough time to have everyone at the table staring at me.

Great.

“Sorry.” Croaking out the word as I reached for my glass of water, I hoped they’d get bored as I took a sip, but that’d been wishful thinking. “Swallowed wrong.”

“Because some people don’t know how to behave around guests.” The large guy named for a chess piece…not Queen…Bishop…frowned at several of the people who’d laughed. “There were several things we weren’t going to talk about.”

They had a checklist for us.

Great.

Everyone knew about their audience.

“At least they’re not that weird guy who tries to hand out dog treats.” A smaller guy who kept frowning shook his head. “Or the couple who asked us to change closer to the window because the wife couldn’t see enough.”

Good grief.

“We weren’t doing anything weird.” The words jumped out before I could catch them, and once I had everyone’s attention again, I couldn’t stop the flood. “We weren’t jerking off. We were curious and we even walked away from the windows when Eli and his partner had sex.”

It took a few seconds of giggles coming from around the table to realize I’d thrown him under the bus.

“Not that there’s anything wrong with that.” Shoot. “He’s entitled to scream and orgasm wherever he wants on private property. We didn’t watch.”

Much.

The first time we’d been slightly startled…and we’d both had long showers that night.

Eli didn’t seem to mind and it was his partner’s turn to roll his eyes as Eli waved off the issue. “We’re incredible to watch, so I admire your restraint.”
