It’s certainly not something I’d planned for my life, there’s still so much I want to do. I felt that sick panicky feeling growing in my stomach and fought it back along with the nausea.

Right now, the most important thing was getting this thing done for Track. Besides, I already had it better than most girls my age who find themselves in this position.

I’m sure my baby and I won’t starve and we’d always have a roof over our hands, hopefully. The only way I can see us not being okay is if Jace Saunders was no longer here. And he’s too damn stubborn and crazy to go anywhere for a long-long time.

But it wasn’t just finances I was worried about. A baby is a huge responsibility, one I hadn’t prepared for at this point in my life. And what about him? Is he ready for this? He’s supposed to be heading off to college in a year or so. What have I done….

“SIAN! That’s it…”

“Jace no.” I had to grab his arm to stop him. We were heading up the stairs to the plane as Track was pulling in and my thoughts had made me light headed.

All I did was fall into his side a little and he was ready to call the whole thing off. Oh yeah. He’s not hearing those words from me until we’re in the delivery room no matter how much prodding he does.

“Jace, calm down, I’m fine. Didn’t you say Track needs me to do this? Look at me. Nothing is going to happen.” He didn’t look like he cared This boy!

Track met us inside and right away knew something was wrong.

He dragged Jace off to the back of the plane giving me some much needed peace thank heaven, but only after Jace had made sure that I was seated and strapped in. We weren’t even ready for takeoff.

I was a wreck the whole time we sat outside that damn place waiting for her. She’d slept most of the way here, curled up on the bed in the plane’s bedroom and the only reason I didn’t stay with her is because I was too restless to lay still.

I paced the aisle of the jet back and forth until Track forcibly put me back in my seat. “Promise me that she won’t be in any danger.”

“He’s a snake, but she’s going to the Capitol, there’ll be lots of people there today.”

“She just has to act the way I told her to and say the things I told her to say. Look, we’ll be able to see and hear her the whole time she’s in there.” He showed me something on his phone that was hooked up to the glasses she was supposed to switch.

“Fuck, where’d you get this?”

“I made it.” Of course he did. Fucking genius. No wonder the government wants his ass. Over my dead body.

After his little show and tell I’d relaxed a whole lot, but now I was back to stressing. She’d been in there two minutes, after waiting outside the office door with other hopefuls for fifteen.

“By the way, what do you plan to do if he chooses her?”

“He won’t get the chance.”

“Huh? What does that mean?

“I’ll tell you about it later.”

Who the hell does he think he is? I threw my purse down on the bed and stalked around the room in a fury. Fear still beat a tattoo on my heart and my breath still wasn’t coming easy.

I’ve never been so scared in my life. I thought for sure he was going to kill me when he opened the car door, but instead he’d just glared at me before giving me the most sinister smile I’d ever seen on a person’s face.

That wouldn’t have been so bad if he’d left it there, but then he’d dropped an envelope in my lap and walked away. Not a word was said and the whole thing must’ve lasted five seconds, but felt like a lifetime. I was still shaking when he left and was sure I was going to wreck if I tried to drive.

That feeling only got worse when I opened the envelope. It’s what was in there that had me in the state I’m in now. I’d barely made it home in one peace, but I couldn’t have sat in that parking lot a second longer feeling so exposed.

I must’ve looked over his little surprise five or six times before I was able to process the truth of what I was looking at. My whole world had imploded just like that and I hadn’t seen it coming. And especially not from him.

How could he know those things? Who told him and when? And could this have anything to do with the reason Jace broke up with me? I ran to the bathroom and threw up what little was in my stomach.
