“Ah—you don’t look like you’re dying. That’s good,” Martín says, stepping up to shake my hand. Everything about him screams friendly and yet he keeps implying my demise.

“What the hell are you talking about?” I snarl, wanting answers. I hate the fact that I’m clearly unaware of something extremely vital to my well-being and it has to do with last night’s activities.

“Come in and sit.” I take a seat on the sofa with my back facing the wall. He sits down on a plush chair. “So last night, I had my guys monitor where you and your brother went. When I finally spoke with them this morning, they informed me that you were busy with two women last night, but the girls left running from my hotel at different hours, so it’s a little concerning. Watching the surveillance footage from bar, I noticed something fucked up.”

“Something fucked up?” In walks Mrs. Martín with a tablet that she hands over to her husband.

He takes it from her, intentionally rubbing his hands over hers longer than necessary. “Gracias, mi vida.”

Turning back to me he says, “Here it is.”

He presses play on the tablet, and it shows up on the large television screen on the wall in front of me. It’s cued up to where I lean in to warn her not to run away. I watch the video and see Candy and that woman arguing. My woman is shaking her head, and then that other bitch dumps something into my drink. “What the fuck?”

“She tastes it, so either she’s stupid or it’s not poison. Just something enough to probably knock you out.”

“That didn’t happen.” I thrust my hands through my hair because I was more than awake all night. “I can’t fucking believe this bullshit.”

“Hey, at least she tries to stop you from drinking it,” Martín’s wife says. He rewinds it, and that’s when I remember her trying to say something, reaching out, but I tossed back the drink fast so I could get her alone. Fuck, I don’t know what to think. My stomach lurches, but I hold it together.

“I can call a doctor to come in and have a quick test run. Then again, if you do drugs normally, it will be…”

“I don’t do drugs at all.” You have to have a clear head in this world, which means keeping all drugs away from me, and I rarely have more than a drink or two.

“Then we can have it done quickly. I have tests for my hotel staff, so if you want…”

“Where the fuck were my guys?” I snap, jumping to my feet. Pacing back and forth, my mind is racing and all I can think about it my woman and where the fuck she is. She’s been gone for so many fucking hours, leaving in the cover of darkness before the sun bothered to rise.

“Your one guy is right there, watching you and your brother.” Cesar’s always looking out for us. He pulls up another camera at a different location in the bar, and I see my two other guys watching and doing absolutely nothing. “Damn. I guess those assholes don’t need their eyes since they aren’t using them.”

“Or their tongues, since they didn’t say shit,” his wife says. Martín turns his head to her with a smirk. Hell, I like her crazy. I wonder if Candy would feel the same when shit went down.

“Damn, amor, you’re getting ruthless.” He leans down and kisses her while she sits on his lap. He looks at me and then points to his wife. “She was an absolute sweetheart when I met her.”

“Do you know who the woman is?” I ask them because I want her to pay, and then I will be spanking Candy’s ass before tying her to my bed.

“No, but I’ve seen the other one around my hotel before. Let me contact one of my security guards. He was here last night and knows the woman.”

“Thank you.” Martín lifts her off him and stands, settling her into his chair.

“I’m Roxie by the way. Would you like some breakfast? I know it’s late, but since I’m pregnant, it’s a late start this morning and I wanted bacon.” She smiles brightly, and I can’t refuse her kindness. Despite my rage, I can’t be rude to her.

“Thank you. I’d love something. At least some coffee.” I need to clear my head some, so I can get ready to take care of business. A headache is building at my temples that I’m going to make my little sweet Candy help me soothe.

“Sure.”

She moves to stand, but Martín puts his hand on her shoulder. “Sirena, please sit. I’ll have the food brought in.”

With a roll of her eyes, she stands up and huffs, “Ugh, I’m barely pregnant. The baby will be fine if I move about. In fact, I need the exercise.”
