And just like that, we’ve been dismissed.

“And, Anastasia?”

“Yeah?” I say, stopping in my tracks by the door.

“I’m proud of you. Regardless of the mistakes you make, I’m still proud of everything you’ve accomplished, and I know your mother would be too.”

chapter twenty-eight

JULIAN

“What do we do for the corporate event now?” Ana asks once we’re in my office. “Because we’re sure as hell not having it at a baseball game.”

“We could always do football,” I deadpan.

“Hell no!” she shrieks, making me laugh.

“I’m just kidding.”

“Too soon.” She glares.

“I guess a company picnic it is.”

“Good choice.”

“I wonder if I can get a copy of that video,” I say, typing our names into the search engine.

“What for?” she hisses.

“Did you see that small clip of you riding my cock?” I smirk. “If it hasn’t been taken down yet, that video is going into my spank bank.”

“It’s not too late to file for an annulment,” Ana says, coming around the desk and leaning over me to swat my hands away from the keyboard.

I drag her into my lap and twist her so she’s facing me. “You wouldn’t dare,” I warn, fisting the back of her hair. “Besides, I saw the way you squirmed when your dad showed us the video.” I pull her head toward mine. “You were as turned on as I was, watching yourself ride my cock.”

Without waiting for her to respond, I kiss her luscious mouth. When I slide my tongue past her parted lips so I can taste her, she sighs into me.

Despite having just got caught on video, fucking my wife, I’m considering taking her on my desk when there’s a quick rap on the door, followed by Ryder strolling in, like he always does.

“Jesus,” he says with a laugh as Ana shuffles off my lap and stands. “You’d think getting caught fornicating at a baseball game would slow you two down. Guess not.”

“You saw it, huh?” I smirk, making Ana glare my way.

“I’m pretty sure everyone has,” Ryder says with a chuckle.

“I should probably get to work,” Ana mutters, walking toward the door.

“Actually, I’m glad I caught you both,” Ryder says. “Nora has been hounding me to get out. She’s bored at home.” He rolls his eyes, and I refrain from saying what I’m thinking—maybe her lazy ass should get a job. “She wants to hang out with other adults, and the last thing I want is to go out with her friends.”

“No.” I shake my head, knowing where this is going.

“C’mon, please,” Ryder begs, giving Ana the saddest puppy-dog eyes.

“No,” I insist. “That woman is the literal devil.”

“We’d love to,” Ana says. “How about Friday night? We don’t have any plans.”

“That would be great. Thanks.” Ryder grins at her. “How about Lush? She’s been wanting to try the place out.”

“I’ll get us reservations,” I drawl.

“Thank you. I owe you.”

“Big time,” I agree.

Ryder leaves, closing the door behind him, and I walk over to Ana.

With her back to me, I rest my hands on her hips and my chin on her shoulder. “Now, where were we?”

“We are not having sex anywhere but in our house for the foreseeable future,” she says, turning around.

“Where’s the fun in that?”

I waggle my brows, and she playfully smacks my chest.

“Not happening.” She presses a quick kiss to my lips and then backs up. “I’m going to get started on the details for the company picnic. I’ll see you later.”

Once she’s gone, I go about researching a wedding planner. My wife wants a real wedding, so she’s going to get one that she’ll never forget.

“I think I’m going to go away for a few days.”

I glance up from my phone and set it down, finding Ana standing in front of me.

“You mean, we’re going to go away for a few days?” I correct.

“No.” She shakes her head. “I meant me.”

She swallows thickly, and I see it in her features that she’s trying to push me away.

It’s been a long week, dealing with the fallout from the baseball-game footage. Kingston’s attorneys were able to get it taken down, but not before it went viral on social media. Our IT department has been working around the clock to get them removed, but it will never happen. Once something like that is out in the world, there’s no wiping it away completely.

And with every video that’s found and posted and commented on, she retreats into her shell a little more.

“See, that’s where you’re wrong.”

I lock the door behind her and then guide us over to the couch.

When I sit, I expect her to cuddle into my side, like she always does, but instead, she places herself on the other side, keeping her distance.

“I just think I need some space,” she whispers.

“No,” I argue, reaching across the couch and pulling her into my arms so she’s sitting across my lap. “What you need is to realize that you’re not in this alone. And while I get you running after your mom passed away, you’re not running now.”
