When she asked why we didn’t get along, I had no answer because I truly don’t know. It’s been that way since we were kids. I can’t think of a specific instance of why it started, it’s just the way it’s always been. She gets under my skin and I get under hers. Yet, last night as I laid there, feeling the warmth of her body close to mine, surrounded by her sweet scent and soft voice, I saw her differently. She wasn’t my sister’s annoying friend or the girl that drives me crazy, she was a beautiful, sexy woman who was awakening parts of me that have been dormant.

When she finally closed her eyes, I stayed awake staring at her. Admiring how angelic she looked with the moonlight shining on her. How sweet the soft sounds were coming from her slightly parted full lips. How soft her skin appeared and how sexy it was when her tits pushed closer to me.

At some point, I passed out but I was awakened by her trying to slide out from the hold I had on her. I don’t remember when I initially started holding her, but damn it felt good. I didn’t allow her to know I was awake because I could tell she didn’t feel the same. She was tense and slipping away like the best dream you’ve ever had but suddenly woke up from.

She hasn’t brought it up, so clearly it’s not something she wants to discuss. So, here I am running around helping her look for a replacement cake for Paxton and Hartford, trying to keep my thoughts from drifting back to how good it felt when she was in my arms.

“Brock, what are we going to do?” she asks, sitting down on the small bench outside the bakery.

I scratch my head and sit next to her. “I’m not sure this could work, or even how it would work, but doesn’t February bake? I mean I know she makes all those delicious treats at Pour Some Sugar On Me. Maybe she and Harrison could fly out here and make it or something.”

She snaps her head toward me with wide eyes and a very faint smile on her pink lips as she grabs my arm. “Oh my God, why didn’t I think of that? February is an amazing baker and Harrison knows a lot. Also, I know Griffin isn’t a pastry chef, but I’m sure he’s capable of helping.”

I nod and look out at the busy street in front of us. “But where are they going to bake a wedding cake?”

She stands up and grabs my arm, pulling me with her. “Get up. I have an idea.”

I chuckle as I stand and give her a salute. “Yes, ma’am.”

She giggles and pulls my arm to get me walking. “Griffin is a trained chef. Call him, see if he knows anyone who owns a restaurant here. We only need access to the kitchen and it would be done when it’s closed that way we don’t get in the way.”

“That’s a lot of we in that statement. I don’t know about you but I don’t know the first thing about baking a cake.”

She laughs, shaking her head, causing a piece of her hair to get caught on her lip. I reach over and release it and she stops walking, staring into my eyes. My pulse picks up and like a bucket of ice water over my head, she grabs her phone when it starts ringing.

“Hello?” She moves the phone away from her cheek for a moment, and says, “It’s Anya.”

I nod.

“Listen, Anya. I have an idea, it’s a goodie.” She laughs and I shake my head. Why isn’t she this girl when it’s just us? She’s always laughing with Anya, Hartford, and Felicity. With me, it’s a fake laugh to get her ex jealous. It’s definitely not the same.

“Anya, ask Griffin if he knows anyone local who owns a restaurant. We can get February and Harrison out here to make the cake. I’m sure they’d be thrilled.” She’s smiling, lighting her face up as she listens with her phone pressed to her ear. “No one here is willing to take on the job, but if there’s one thing we all know about Magnolia Ridge it’s that we all pull together when someone is in need.”

“Your cousins own a bar?” Willow’s eyes widen as she stares at me. “That’s perfect.” She relays her plan to Hartford on the phone, and now that we’ve got a plan in place, I’m smiling at how Willow was able to save the day.

We’ve been back with everyone for a few hours and we are eating dinner. Crisis averted. February and Harrison were so excited to be included, especially since Paxton and Harrison go way back. Paxton was there when Harrison met February, which I heard was a hilarious encounter. They both had coffee shops and she decided to get a little intel on her competition and ended up behind the counter acting like she worked there. Harrison caught her and she ran like the wind. I don’t exactly know the entire story, but I’ve heard it’s a really good one.
