I’d never considered glasses sexy, but on Oakley, they were hot as fuck. Everything about her was a turn-on. She was around a half a foot shorter than me, with a waiflike body shape that reminded me of a fairy. Her beauty was understated, so I imagined that not a lot of people recognized how absolutely drop-dead gorgeous she was. Which was fine with me. I didn’t think she’d appreciate it if I was constantly gouging out the eyes of men who looked at her a little too long.

Oakley was quiet as I helped her off the bike, her deep brown eyes studying me as if I were a puzzle she hadn’t yet worked out. I knew she was curious about what was going on, but she waited patiently rather than pestering me about it.

“Let’s go inside, and we can talk.”

“Okay.” I put my hand at the small of her back and urged her toward the front door. It gave me a stellar view of her legs and ass in the legging-things she was wearing. I would definitely have to put my foot down on her wearing those anywhere but our bedroom, and eventually, our house.

My dick was painfully hard, so I peeled my eyes off her assets as we walked up to the door. She turned slightly, glancing around, and something in her expression and the sharp intelligence in her eyes told me that she didn’t miss much.

“This place is impressive,” she told me quietly. “It’s nothing like I pictured for a motorcycle club.”

I nodded and urged her to step inside with a little pressure at her back. “Depending on where you got your information, it was most likely inaccurate or based on clubs that are very different from the Silver Saints.”

“So it would seem,” she replied as she took in the large front room on her right, with couches, tables, and a bar. The wall on our left was covered with photos from races and events dating from this year to back to when the club was founded.

A few of my brothers were lounging around, and a couple of old ladies were sitting at the bar with Cat standing behind it. Everyone’s eyes were on us, and I glared at them as I slipped my arm around Oakley, pulling her against my side.

I was a little surprised when she melted into me, but I took it as a sign that she was feeling this thing between us as much as I was.

Heavy footfalls came from down a hallway a few feet ahead of us, and I braced myself when the prez stomped around the corner. He scanned the room, then his eyes landed on me, and I gulped at the fury in them. I was not easily intimidated, but Mac was president of the club for many reasons, including being a scary motherfucker who didn’t take shit from anyone. He was softer with the women and children, and he ruled with fairness, but he didn’t tolerate being disobeyed, and he wouldn’t hesitate to punish a brother with a bullet between the eyes if they disrespected the club.

Lucky for me—sort of—he hadn’t given me an order not to snatch Oakley and bring her to the compound. However, his rage was still justifiable because the repercussions could be really bad. Still, I wasn’t going to give her up, and if that meant handing over my cut and patch, then so be it.

Mac pointed at me. “You. Office.” Then he looked at the bar and used three fingers to beckon Cat over. Although he gave her an order, his voice was slightly gentler. “Take—” He frowned and looked at me.

“Oakley.”

“Take Oakley to the kitchen and feed her. Then you can put her in—”

“She’ll stay with me,” I interrupted firmly.

Mac’s eyes narrowed, practically burning through me when he growled, “We’ll discuss it.”

“I want to stay with Doc,” Oakley piped up.

I pressed my hand over her mouth and nodded out of respect for my president, but I knew he could see by the stubborn expression on my face that I wasn’t going to budge.

After staring me down for a few seconds, he growled and turned back to Cat. “After she eats, you can put her in Doc’s room. For now.” He stressed the last two words with a meaningful glance at me.

Cat murmured her agreement and smiled warmly at Oakley. She jerked her head toward the other side of the room where the entrance to the kitchen was. “Come on, kid.”

Oakley’s eyes raised to mine, not with fear, but more like she was making sure it was okay for her to leave. I wanted to laugh because it was adorable that she thought she could protect me. Especially when I already knew that she had the ability to shatter my heart.

“Maybe I shouldn’t leave you with—”
