Candice didn’t know if they would ever truly know, or if this secret would die with the four of them. Either way, they were going to continue to make memories.
And so, Draven and Maria stepped into the main sitting room. The kids were all excited about the presents already underneath the tree. Christmas music played, and it sounded so perfect and so peaceful.
Candice watched as Draven walked up to his brother and the two started with a handshake. She knew they had been down a hard road—one filled with pain and abuse—but they had been able to find their happiness, their love, and she hoped each other.
Maria came to her, wrapping her arm around her.
“Thank you,” Maria said.
She rested her head on her shoulder. Antwone and Draven slapped each other on the back, and then turned toward their wives. Draven pulled Maria into his arms. Every year for the past five, Candice had asked him which present he would like to unwrap, and every year he said the same. She was his gift, and the only one he looked forward to unwrapping.
“Are you ready?” Antwone asked.
“Yes.”
More than ready.
He kissed her neck and she knew it was a promise for later.
“Kids, you know the drill, one present.”
And chaos, like the years before, ensued.
The End
