“And did you two talk everything out?” Joey asked.
“Eh.” He quietly laughed. “Kind of. She told me she was finally ready for everything that being with me entailed. I think there were about three minutes of conversation and hours of sex.”
He made a gagging sound. “I don’t need to know all of that shit, Ink.” I laughed. “Glad you two are somewhat back on good terms now, though. Ready for you to be back home, Ink. You’ve been gone for fucking months.”
I sighed. “I have some loose ends to tie up here before I can even think about coming back home, Joey.”
He grunted. “I know.” I nodded once at Alejandro as I walked into the kitchen. He was shirtless and sweaty, obviously just having finished working out. He was gulping down a bottle of water, but he stopped and arched an eyebrow at me in question.
“Joey,” I explained. “He’s pissed at you, by the way.”
“Eh.” Alejandro shrugged. “He’ll get over himself.”
“I heard that, dick,” Joey sounded from the other end of the line. I laughed. “Just keep me updated. And if my sister comes back home before you, fucking make sure she’s got protection, Joey. Shit’s quiet, but I won’t take any fucking chances. We might have the fucker who shot Gloria, but we still have no fucking idea why my club is being targeted, much less one of the club women.”
“I know. She’s safe with me,” I promised.
I hung up the phone and set it on the counter, heading towards the pantry where I kept some of the granola bars I had bought. Jessie would be up soon, and she needed to eat something.
“You two back on better terms?” Alejandro asked me.
“Working on it,” I told him. “But I think she’s finally made her mind up. We just need to talk more.”
He laughed. “Yeah—try to refrain from fucking her brains out this time, yeah?”
I rolled my eyes at him. “Alejandro, go fuck yourself.”
He laughed and shook his head, striding out of the kitchen. I grabbed a bottle of water and a granola bar. After placing it on the nightstand with a note for her to call her brother and to eat and drink the water, I pulled on some gym shorts and headed out to the gym to work out.
I jerked in surprise when Jessie suddenly straddled my legs where I was laid back on the weight bench. I had thankfully just set the bar on its rack, so I didn’t drop the damn thing on my chest.
“Woman,” I playfully growled as I gripped her hips and looked up at her. Fuck, she was settled right over my cock. She was munching on her granola bar, and her bottle of water was in her other hand.
She smiled at me, sucking the air from my lungs. Fuck, she was beautiful. “Good morning,” she greeted.
I smiled at her in return, the response automatic when she was looking at me like this—like she was completely happy and content, her beautiful, dark eyes shining so beautifully. “Good morning, baby.” I sat up and brushed my lips with hers. “Proud of you for eating and drinking your water.”
She beamed at me. “I’m actually on my third bar.” She laughed. “Second bottle of water.”
A husky chuckle ripped from my chest as I wrapped my arms around her and nuzzled her neck. “If you were that hungry, my girl, you could have come and got me. I would have made you something more sustainable to eat.” But I was proud of her for eating regardless.
She shrugged. “These granola bars are addicting,” she admitted. “Trust me, I was perfectly fine eating these. They’re really good.”
I brushed my lips to her neck, listening as her breath hitched in her throat. I felt her pulse jump beneath my lips.
I loved the effect that I had on this woman.
“I’ll be sure to pick up another box on my way back later.” I brushed her nose with mine. “I have to go deal with some shit for Alejandro—tie up some loose ends before I can come back home. Are you going to be okay here while I go take care of shit?”
She frowned. “You have to go?”
I gave her a small, tender smile. “Yeah, baby. You know how shit is,” I reminded her. “We need to talk later.” She frowned, the idea of a talk obviously making her anxiety spike. “I’ll text Alejandro and tell him to feed you. You need something a little more sustaining than granola bars all day.”
Dropping my previous comment of a talk later, she brushed her lips with mine. “Do I get some time with you first?” she asked me.
I grinned at her. “That what you want, baby?” Fuck, I was always down for more time with her.
She ran her hands over my bare shoulders. My muscles quivered beneath her touch. “I’ve had to be without you for three months, Ink. I might have passed out last night, but I certainly did not get my fucking fill of you.”
