The day after they had spent the night and the whole day together, he had expected her to blow his phone up with texts and phone calls like every woman he had allowed to spend the night. He had prepared himself to make nice but make it plain that texts, calls, actually any communication other when they hooked up, fell into a relationship category he wasn’t interested in. After Arden left his apartment to go to work, he had waited for the first text to come in, but nothing. Zip, zilch, nada. As the day progressed, he had come to the club, still in a pretty good mood. He’d even worked several hours at the warehouse. After work, he’d returned to the club to play several hours of pool with Puck and Buck. At eleven, he knew her shift had ended at the restaurant, so, giving her an hour to get home and shower, he’d left the club.

Not seeing Arden’s rental car, he had still gone to her apartment to knock. When it remained unanswered, he had gone to his apartment to sit on his couch and wait for her to come home. Instead, he had fallen asleep waiting for her.

Determined not to text her, he had showered and dressed before heading out. Could something have happened to her parents? Growing concerned, he had driven by her work to see the rental car in the parking lot.

Was she ghosting him? Was that why she wasn’t texting him? He completely forgot that had been his intention for her.

The whole way to the club, all he could think was his eagerness to get to her apartment and fuck her only to feel like a fool when she wasn’t there.

He wasn’t demented. He knew it was crazy to feel the way he was feeling, but he did despite trying to reason with himself.

He emptied his glass and was going to motion for Kat that he wanted a refill when he noticed she must have gone into the kitchen with Margarita.

As he turned the corner of the bar, he heard a commotion coming from inside the kitchen. Hurrying, Doom entered the kitchen to see Kat and Margarita fighting.

“You bitch!” Kat yelled at Margarita. “You should have kept your mouth shut. You shouldn’t be running your mouth about shit to—”

Doom nearly took a header into the refrigerator when he went sliding on the slick floor.

“What in the fuck did you spill?” Doom yelled, catching himself.

Kat shoved Margarita away from her, making her stumble against the kitchen table.

“Nothing,” Margarita muttered, smoothing down her hair.

Kat gave the other woman a death glare. “She told her cousin you claimed Tink as your property. From what I heard Margarita saying on the phone, Haven must have humiliated Tink at work yesterday.”

Doom’s stomach clenched in a sickening rush. He should have given Tink a heads-up there was bad blood between Haven and him.

Switching his gaze to Margarita, he was about to ask her himself what Haven had said to Tink when Wizard beat him to it.

“Why did you tell Haven Doom claimed Tink?” Wizard gingerly walked into the room.

Turning his head, Doom saw Shade, Moon, and several other of the brothers had come to find out what the disturbance was about.

“I didn’t think it was a big deal.” Margarita pulled out one of the chairs to sit down. “I didn’t think about her embarrassing Tink in the breakroom. She loves her job. She’s worked there for seven years. I didn’t think she would jeopardize her job—”

“What did Haven say she said to Tink?” Doom cut her off.

His jaw clenched when Margarita repeated some of the things Haven had said to Tink. The more Margarita talked, the more furious he became.

As much as he wanted to yell at the woman who was staring fearfully at him, Doom remained silent. Wizard had first dibs as president to speak first.

“Kat, you can have Margarita’s room.” Wizard reached out to grab Margarita out of the chair. “Get your shit out of that room. I don’t give a fuck where you find to sleep, but it won’t be here as soon I can get everyone here to call a church meeting. We keep club business to ourselves. Haven doesn’t belong to The Last Riders, and you are aware of why fucking not.”

“She’s my cousin—”

“I don’t give a fuck if Haven’s your fucking sister. Did you not learn anything from Racy?” Wizard snarled down at her. “She picked family over The Last Riders when she was in Treepoint and, as punishment, was sent back here. Do you see her here anymore?”

“No,” Margarita said in a low whisper that could barely be heard.

“That’s right; she fucking isn’t.” Wizard picked up the chair just to slam it back down, smashing it into five pieces. “Let me fill you in on something. This morning, I got a text from Tink. She’s hooked me up with a lawyer to help me expand the club. Now, I don’t know if she is sincerely trying to help the club or if this is some type of payback because you fucking had Haven humiliate her.”
