“Please don’t.” She hastily shook her head at him. “I’m well aware of my lack of attractiveness.” Wanting to smooth her short hair down and straighten her jacket again, she self-consciously didn’t pull her gaze away from his.

“I was about to say, rape has never appealed to me, not even during role playing. I prefer my women willing and available.”

Arden wanted to fan her face at the look he was giving her.

“I’m not.” At least she only half-lied.

“No shit. I’d never guess that.”

Her nostrils flared in anger. “Are you being sarcastic?”

He rolled his eyes at her. “Yes.” Giving a frustrated sigh, he straightened his relaxed posture. “As much as I’m enjoying this conservation…” This time, she didn’t have to ask if he was being sarcastic; it was plain to see. “What is so important you want to talk to Wizard?”

“Is he the one in charge of your club?”

“Wizard is the president of this chapter of The Last Riders.” He nodded.

“Then he’s the one I need to talk to.”

“In case you missed it, Wizard has his hands full. You have two choices: tell me what has your panties in a wad enough to call the cops, or I can assist your ass out to your car. Keep in mind that every place in this club is monitored with video surveillance, so if you are planning on lying to the cops that anyone did anything inappropriate, we’ll be the ones pressing charges against you. If you choose the first option, after you tell me what has you upset enough to come inside a motorcycle club without an invite, I will do my best to help with the problem. If I can’t, I’ll relay the info to Wizard. From there, I’ll contact you as to what he wants done. If you choose the second option, which is what I prefer, then thanks for wasting my fucking time. This is going to be as good as it gets, so which do you choose?” He placed his hands on the arms of the chair, preparing to rise.

“Since those are my only options, I choose number one.” She could be just as sarcastic as him.

From his malevolent smile, Arden didn’t think he appreciated her sarcasm as much she had his.

“Then let’s hear what we’ve supposedly done that deserves having the cops called on us.”

“I think contributing to the delinquency of a minor is worth calling the police for. This place is considered a bar, isn’t it? Unless I didn’t see liquor being served out there?” Crossing her arms over a heavily beating heart, she gave him a superior smile. It was the highlight of her terrible day to swipe the arrogant wind out of his sails.

“I can verify myself as a fact that no one under eighteen is allowed on the grounds or in the bar.”

“Really…?” she drawled. “Then can you explain how I saw my brother here? Oh and I can verify as a fact he’s only sixteen.”

She had to give Doom kudos; he didn’t show concern at her revelation, but she did see a troubled expression enter his eyes.

“Who’s your brother?”

“Luc Johnston.”

“That doesn’t mean shit to me. What’s his biker name?”

“I don’t know.” She shrugged in bewilderment. “We only found out today he was planning on joining The Last Riders.”

“Then he was just pulling your chain. No one under eighteen is allowed. Go home and call the little shit’s bluff.” He rose and motioned toward the office door. “I’ll escort you out.”

“Wait!” Arden dropped her arms from her chest in surprise that he was denying Luc being there. “I saw him with my own eyes.”

“Where? Show me where.” He reached out to take her arm, marching her toward the door.

“He’s not here now,” she argued, frantically pulling her arm out of his grip.

His detached façade did a one-eighty, turning brutal and making her legs feel like jelly.

“What fucking game are you trying to get over on us?”

“I’m telling the truth.” She managed to articulate the words despite being terrified.

Her father’s doctors had warned his next heart attack would make her mother a widow. If she had to fight the whole clubhouse to save her father’s life, she would. He was the type of father other children wished were theirs. There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for them, and dammit, there was no biker, no matter how scary they were, that would stop her from doing the same.

Snagging her by the waist, Doom started dragging her toward the door.

“Luc was here!” she yelled, grabbing the doorframe. “He was standing outside, watching the door, before I was so politely escorted inside.”

Arden was released so quickly that she found herself plastered to the doorframe.

“Are you talking about Blue?”

Turning her head to the side to look at him, she caught a stunned expression on his face. “Blue?” she asked, using the opportunity to tighten her grip on the wood.
