Fifteen startled gazes looked at Hawk in surprise. Then Doom and the other brothers started for the windows facing the lot.

“Who is it?” Shade asked from his chair.

Wizard and he stared at each other in disbelief, sure they were imagining the elegantly-dressed man who got out of the limo to button his suit jacket.

“Is that…?” Wizard began.

Doom couldn’t believe it either, but nodded his head, confirming who they were all seeing. “The fucking governor.”

Striding into the office building, Doom saw the bank of elevators just as Margarita had described. He stepped inside the elevator and pressed the button for the fourth floor. When the elevator reopened, he confidently walked past the workstations to make a right. Doom headed for the fourth door in the corridor and keyed in several numbers. This was where his plan could go wrong if Margarita had given him the wrong code. A green light shined by the doorknob. Turning the handle, he found himself in a tiled corridor leading to a room with a door being held open by a trash can. He made his way down the tight corridor and didn’t pause before he entered the room.

Taking his sunglass off, Doom spotted the woman he was there to see.

As he drew closer to where she was sitting, Haven sent him a frightened smile.

“Doom, you shouldn’t be here. This is for employees only.”

“I won’t be staying long. Since you wanted to air our dirty laundry in front of your coworkers to humiliate Arden, I thought I would return the favor of telling them the truth. I didn’t fuck you over after two weeks. Never, at any time, did we have a relationship to break off. You were an easy lay, which I grew tired of when you texted me about twenty times to hook up again. I took what you offered until I didn’t want it anymore.

“You had the fucking nerve to tell Arden to have slut tattooed on her, while you don’t need it tattooed on you. It was obvious from the way you sucked my dick in front of all The Last Riders and had your cousin record it. That’s why you weren’t allowed to become a member. Not to mention you becoming a fucking stalker anytime I left the club.”

“Doom, please…” Haven put a hand up to cover her red face.

“Look at me when I’m talking to you,” he snarled. “I don’t want to hear Arden’s name coming out of your mouth again. I don’t care if you’re at work or shitting in your bathroom. We both know your beef with Arden isn’t about me. Margarita said you’ve been running your mouth about her since she started working here. That you managed to get these shitheads turned against her is their fucking loss, not hers. Not one of you fuckers, from what I heard, said jack shit to this bitch for pushing Arden or tried to take up for her.”

One of the weenies sitting at another table stood up aggressively. “You should go before I call security.”

“Sit the fuck down.” Doom stomped his foot in the weenie’s direction.

The fucker sat.

“Thought so.” Doom gave a mirthless laugh, daring anyone else in the room to open their mouths.

When he saw the embarrassed man pull out his cell phone, Doom rolled his eyes on him. “Save yourself the trouble. I’m almost done.”

Doom turned back to Haven. “You couldn’t stand that Arden is kind, sweet, and loyal, everything you pretend to be. Don’t blame her for me being able to see beneath that pretty package you hide behind. I saw the ugliness inside and decided to return it to sender.”

Pivoting on his booted heel, he casually turned his back on Haven and strode between the tables. Stopping at Arden’s table, he placed a hand on her trembling shoulder. “Honey…” Doom drawled out in the most seductive tone he could manage, spearing a hand into her hair to tilt her head back. “I’ll see you tonight.” He kissed her passionately until he could feel her lips stop trembling, then raised his mouth and gave her a wink before he left.

Whistling as he let himself out of the employee’s entrance, passing the employee’s workstations, Doom gave a wave of his hand when he saw their craning necks trying to get a look at him. He pressed the elevator button and wasn’t surprised to see security guards inside.

“Don’t worry; I’m leaving.” Doom stepped inside to push the first-floor button.

The two guards stared at each other before the older one had the courage to speak. “We’re supposed to detain you until the police arrive.”

“You feel like going to the ER instead of going home in an hour?” Doom started removing the thick rings he had on his fingers, placing them in his jacket pocket.

“No, sir.”

“Then you two should stay on the elevator when I get off and ride it back to the fourth floor. By the time you do that, I’ll be off the premises.”
