My heart stops as King quickly dives behind the car.

Grayson and Carver fall in beside the door on the left as Cruz yanks me to the right and slaps his hand over my mouth for good measure.

The heavy door scrapes along the concrete floor and a guard steps out from the hidden bunker. There’s still a chance that this room is just a maintenance room, but one look at this guard and it’s clear that he’s one of Paris’ men.

He freezes, seeing our car parked right by the door and without hesitation, his hand flies to his gun at his hip, but he didn’t count on Carver stepping out of the shadows behind him. No one ever does.

Before the guy can even gasp or shit his pants, Carver’s hands circle his head and violently twist, snapping his neck. We all watch as he silently crumbles to the ground, and just like that, we gain entry into Paris’ secret little lair.

Both Grayson and Cruz catch my eyes, making sure that I’m all good after witnessing Carver snap that dude’s neck, and to be honest, I’m really fucking grateful that they can’t see the wicked grin that’s stretched across my lips below my bandana. I’ve seen far too much death over the past few months and I’m starting to enjoy it. I must be sick or twisted … hell, I’m probably both.

Either way, I’m about to revel in some more.

The five of us slip through the big metal door and into a long tunnel, just as we had thought, and the further we go along, the more familiar it becomes, shaping up exactly as it was drawn out in the blueprints.

Despite wanting to run, we keep at a slow pace knowing that guards could jump out at any time and that the sound of us running through the tunnel is bound to give us away. Now is the time to play it safe. My coveted recklessness can fly free once the kids are out of here.

There’s a light up ahead and we all come to an immediate stand still as a guard crosses in front of it and comes to a stop in front of another heavy, metal door completely oblivious to the five of us deep in the tunnel.

“Mine,” Grayson murmurs, his eyes narrowing in excitement as he reaches down beside his hip and draws his gun. He takes a second and I watch as he twists something onto the end. As his hand falls away and I get a good look at the new addition to his gun, understanding dawns. I’ve seen enough scary movies to know that it’s a silencer which makes this all so much more intriguing.

He raises his gun and I find myself watching in anticipation, my breath held as my eyes widen. My heart starts to race, and as he squeezes the trigger, the bullet flies straight through the guard’s forehead with a soft pew, dropping him like a sack of shit. A thrill fires through my veins and the need to slam Grayson up against the wall of the tunnel overwhelms me.

Shit.

Head in the fucking game.

We work quickly, rushing up to the door in case there are any other guards around to alert the people inside of our presence.

Cruz grabs the guard’s body and flips it over until we find a keychain connected to his belt. I dive down and unhook it, my gaze shifting to each of the boys.

I take a heavy breath and slide the key into the lock, knowing that the second I open this door, all hell is going to break loose. “Get your gun ready,” King reminds me. “There’s no turning back now.”

CHAPTER 11

With a hard pull, I slide the heavy lock back on the door and Grayson shoves past me, pushing the door hard, knowing that I would have struggled with its weight. It swings back, dragging across the concrete just as the door out in the parking lot had done.

The boys rush in before me, leaving me for last, and while they claim that this is all equal, I know they’re wanting to assess the room before giving me a chance to come into the mess, but I won’t be holding back. I don’t need to be treated with kid gloves anymore. I know the consequences of living in a world surrounded by corruption. I know exactly what I’m getting myself into, and when I told the boys that I could handle it, I fucking meant it.

I race in after them, my gun held out, ready to shoot as I force myself in between Grayson and Carver. It’s only been a second or two since the boys rushed the room, but the guards are only now just realizing something is off.

Their heads begin raising, assuming the scraping of the door had come from one of the guards, but seeing us standing before them, ready to rain down hell, they quickly jump into action.
