He shakes his head as a soft glimmer of excitement sparkles in his dark eyes. “Do your fucking worst, babe.”

I don’t hesitate, rearing back and letting my fist fly free.

I give it all I’ve got, letting out every frustration as I slam my fists into his chest and abs over and over again. I avoid his ribs at all costs despite knowing that, with the thick layer of muscles protecting his body, I probably won’t be able to do any real damage, but I’m not taking any chances.

My breath comes in short, hard pants as I let it all out and with each punch, the built up frustration inside of me slowly begins to ease. Carver’s torso turns an angry shade of red, but he doesn’t flinch once, not even when my brass knuckles slam against his chest and the hard metal pinches against his beautiful sun-kissed skin. Instead, he simply reminds me to correct my form and not bother him with lousy punches.

His jaw clenches and his eyes close, taking and accepting each one of my blows, and as the minutes drag on, my punches lose momentum.

I stumble back as it all becomes too much and catch myself against my knees, breathing heavily as I try to gain control. “Holy shit,” I pant, glancing up. “Are you alright?”

Carver’s face twists as though he doesn’t understand the question then simply tugs his shirt out of his pocket and pulls it over his head. “You good now or do you need to scream behind the dumpster while I pretend not to hear you?”

I roll my eyes and mutter a string of curses under my breath as I follow Carver back around to the SUV. “I’m good,” I finally tell him. “I’m still pissed off and the moment I see them, I’m fully prepared to pull their testicles out through their eyeballs and feed them to each other in a fancy salad with Italian dressing.”

Carver arches a brow as he glances my way. “That … uhhh. That was oddly specific.”

I shrug my shoulders, more than proud of the plan that’s been swirling around my brain since lying on the cold ground in the woods. “Yeah, well I’ve had a lot of time to think about revenge over the past few days.”

“Did you come up with anything solid?”

I smirk and glance across at him just before he opens the driver’s door and sinks down into the SUV. “You’re not ready to hear about those plans yet. I think I’ll keep them locked away until you all fuck up again. After all, it’s inevitable.”

“Trust me, babe,” he mutters as I drop down in the passenger seat beside him. He starts the engine and glances at me as he reverses out of his parking space. “I won’t be fucking up like that ever again, especially where you’re involved.”

I look out the window, the heaviness creeping back into my soul. “You also told me that you’d never hurt me and always keep me safe, but look how that turned out.”

Carver sighs and I know he must feel that right down in his gut, but he’ll never admit it. So instead, he focuses his attention on the highway, speeding down the road with absolutely no destination in mind.

Twenty minutes pass when my eyes start getting heavy and I notice Carver out the corner of my eyes, gently rubbing at his chest. It was never my intention to actually hurt him while I was busy losing control and using him as a punching bag, but I’m not going to lie, after everything the guys have put me through, knowing that I was at least able to make him think twice about allowing me to do that again has the satisfaction swelling deep inside me.

“How does it feel getting beat up by a girl?” I ask, side-eyeing him and letting him see the proud smugness pouring out of me.

Carver scoffs and quickly moves his hand away from his chest. “What? That?” he chuckles, the amusement pouring out of him in waves. “That’s not my version of getting beat up. That was the equivalent of letting a little rabbit have a tantrum on my chest.”

A cocky grin rests across his stupid lips and the wider it gets, the narrower my eyes become. He glances my way, laughing at his own stupid wit and seeing the fresh hell building in my eyes, he quickly darts the SUV off the side of the road and brings the car to a stop just in time for me to launch myself at him, determined to show him exactly what it means to get beat up by a girl.

CHAPTER 7

Flames spread through the cabin, licking up the walls and getting hotter by the second, trapping me inside with absolutely no escape. I run from room to room, banging on the windows, trying to break my way out, but it’s no use.
