Grayson stares down at the guy, not trusting him a damn bit as his leg sweeps out, drawing the abandoned gun back toward King. “I’m not going to kill you,” Grayson says, his gaze narrowed. “But you understand that I can’t just let you go, not now.”
The guard nods and Grayson steps toward him. “Sorry man, this is going to hurt,” he says and rears back before his fist flies free, soaring toward the guy with an undeniable power that has my mouth going dry. Grayson’s punch finds home and the guy is instantly knocked out cold.
King rushes in and kneels down beside him, dragging him toward the toilet and wrapping his arms around the base. He’s chained to the toilet and I nod toward Grayson, proud of him for taking the high road and letting him live.
With still so many rooms to clear, I take a step back, and just as Grayson’s eyes go wide, a hard body presses into my back. A burly arm snaps around my chest as I see a flash of a gun, but there’s no way in hell that I came this far just to be shot down now.
My fingers grip the strong arm and before Grayson can even raise his gun, my ass slams back into the guy and I throw my body down. The guard goes toppling over the top of me, his back slamming down hard against the expensive flooring.
His eyes bug out, not having expected such a big move from a girl, and before he even gets the chance to fight back, my hand flies out, my finger pressing down on the trigger as a perfectly round bullet sails straight through the front of his head.
I stand tall, watching as the life fades out of him and as Grayson and King come rushing out of the bathroom with pride shining in their eyes, I know that we’re going to be alright.
The nerves and anxiety that’s been plaguing me since the second we arrived disappears and I stand just a little bit taller, feeling that familiar adrenaline pulsing through my veins and making me feel as though I can do just about anything I want.
I meet the boys’ stares, making sure that I’m not about to freak out. A wide, twisted grin stretches across my lips. “Let’s do this.”
They smirk back at me, excitement bubbling in their eyes. They walk toward me and King hooks his arm over my shoulder as we walk back out of the big room. “Fuck yeah,” he murmurs before pressing a kiss to my temple. “Do you know how fucking hot that was? I’m fucking hard.”
“Just as you should be,” I laugh, but as we approach the door, his arm drops from my shoulders and we fall straight back into business mode.
As we join Carver and Cruz in the hallway, they glance over me and I don’t doubt the the sound of the single gunshot is weighing on their minds, wondering what the fuck went down in the spare room, but they won’t ask me now. All that matters is that we’re all still breathing, and so far, no one is hurt.
As one, we continue down the hallway until there are only two rooms left, the massive master bedroom and the attached private office.
Chances are that Paris is in the master bedroom with guards at her disposal so Cruz stands guard at the door and we quickly clear the private office, which isn’t hard as it’s absolutely tiny. We make quick work of it so we can move onto the reason we’re here, the fucking main event.
Just as we thought, the office is empty and we come back out of it and take the few steps to the master bedroom at the end of the hall. The big double doors are closed and I don’t doubt that the moment we kick them down, bullets are going to rain down over us.
“Get behind me,” Carver murmurs, his stare trained heavily on the massive double doors, and it goes without saying that his comment was meant for me.
Now not being the time for arguments, I slip behind him, letting his big frame block me as King discreetly adjusts his stance, covering my side as well. Carver nods at Grayson and his gaze flicks back over everyone, making sure that we’re all ready for what’s about to go down.
With us all locked and loaded with determination on our side, Grayson goes for it. He slams his foot straight into the doors and they fling open as though they were made out of the cheapest wood. We storm through the double doors, guns held strong.
The guys fan out, covering all our bases, but we’re met with absolutely nothing. “The fuck?” I question, my gaze sweeping through the room as Cruz storms toward the attached bathroom and comes back with nothing.
