“As long as I get my way in this, I could give a fuck if I bully you or not.”

That got a bark of laughter from Cain. He looked like he’d needed the brief humor. I imagine there was a heavy weight on his shoulders. I know there was on mine. Sword had been part of the club and a trusted brother as long as I had. And I’d been in Bones for more than twenty years.

“Get on, you. Go back to your woman and leave me the fuck alone.” His grin belied his gruff words and tone. I sketched him a two-finger salute before turning and following his instructions.

Chapter Five

Chloe

I woke up surrounded in warmth to the most comforting and amazing smell. Autumn rain. Pine. That faint smell after you’ve been asleep in a warm, comfortable bed. Cozy. I stretched, and a deep, masculine groan accompanied strong arms tightening around me. I didn’t feel restricted. Just… wanted. Cared for.

“Deadeye?”

“Yeah, baby. I’m here.”

I had my head on his chest, my hand clutching his side. I wasn’t sure exactly what had happened, but I was torn between mortified and titillated. No doubt he’d expect sex. What man wouldn’t after waking up in this position? But the more I thought about it, the less I was opposed to it. I wasn’t sure I was brave enough to actually admit out loud I wouldn’t mind sex with him, but I wouldn’t rebuff him either.

“Um, I don’t remember how I got in this specific position.”

His chuckle warmed my insides and sounded way too damned good for my peace of mind. “I doubt you do. You were exhausted.”

“I’m not trying to be snippy or anything. I’m just genuinely puzzled. Did I tell you to sleep with me?”

“No. But I didn’t want you getting the idea you could run off again. Besides, I enjoyed myself. Tell me it bothered you waking up in my arms, and I’ll leave you alone.” I thought about lying. “And before you lie to me, know there will be consequences.”

“Wait. What?”

“You heard me.” Again, he chuckled softly. “So, what’s the verdict, girl?”

I sighed. “Fine. I did like it. I’ve never slept with a man before. Like, actually slept. It was a little disorienting at first, but I can’t say it was a bad experience. Besides, I don’t remember even falling asleep.”

He grinned, and the effect was devastating. Though his beard hid some of his features, his smile softened some of the hard planes of his face. Laugh lines fanning out around his eyes gave him one more sexy touch. Yeah. I had no defenses against Deadeye. “Good. I’ll make sure you sleep with me all the time, then.”

“You’re a strange individual, Deadeye.” I couldn’t help but laugh. This was the kind of man I wanted in my life. The kind of man I wanted to stay with. To be fair, I hadn’t really given Sting a chance, but I wasn’t interested in leaving Deadeye now that I was here.

“Isaac.”

“What?”

“My name, baby. Isaac Julian. Just make sure you call me Deadeye in front of people. I have a certain reputation to uphold.” He scowled at me, and I surprised myself by giggling.

“There’s that sound I love so much,” he said roughly. “I’m going to kiss you, Chloe. If you don’t want it, tell me now. Won’t hurt my feelings. I won’t be pissed or anything. But I want to kiss you.”

I nodded my head, looking up at him. “Yes,” I whispered. “Please.”

He pulled me to him, careful not to move too fast. He let me have time to change my mind, but that wasn’t going to happen. I wanted it. Needed it. The second our lips met, I sighed and leaned into him. My arms went around his neck, and I let him pull me on top of him completely.

I straddled his hips when he guided me there, rubbing my body over his deliciously muscled one. The way his arms felt wrapping around me was a heaven I’d never known. I felt safe. Comforted. It felt like, as long as I was in his arms, this man would protect me. Deadeye. Isaac.

He licked the seam of my lips, and I obediently opened for him. When he swept his tongue into my mouth, I shivered, a little whimper escaping. I arched my hips, rubbing over the erection pressing insistently against me.

“Oh, God!” Deadeye swallowed my cry, answering me with a satisfied grunt. His hands slid to my ass, squeezing and kneading the fleshy globes. The move pulled another moan from me.

“I love the sounds you make, Chloe.” He sounded supremely satisfied. As if this was exactly the response he wanted from me.

“Deadeye --”

“Isaac, baby. When I’m makin’ love to you, I want you to call me Isaac.”

“Yes. Isaac.”

He rolled us over, settling on top of me so that his weight pressed me into the mattress. I thought having a man’s weight on top of me so solidly would be uncomfortable at the very least. Maybe even claustrophobic. But it felt right. Made me hungry for what I knew Isaac could give me.
