“We belong to each other. I’m so happy you’re the only woman I’m ever going to be with.”

“Do you think I’ll be enough?” I tease, laughing quietly.

He grins, moving in for a kiss. “You’re more than enough. You’re everything. You’re the woman I’ve been waiting my whole life for. And…”

And he loves me? Is that what he’s going to say?

Because I’m so, so ready to say it back.

“I’m so glad I met you,” he whispers.

Chapter Twenty-Four

Three Days Later

Jaxon

I was going to tell her I loved her when we were lying in bed together after the mind blowing sex.

It was everything I knew it was going to be, our bodies taking control as the need inside us flourished. It was like we were melting into each other, our bodies becoming one.

Every time I think about the first time – and the several times we’ve had sex since then – my body stirs and my manhood floods with my seed. It makes it damn difficult to get through the business day without charging through the office and taking her right there, bending her sweet round ass over the desk and hammering her hard.

But I withheld the L-word during our first time, because an idea occurred to me, right then.

An idea that is going to change our lives forever.

Today, three days after we first had sex, I study the clock on my laptop screen, counting down the minutes until I can see my woman.

I’ve had preparations to make, not least of all a meeting with Jessie’s aunt to ask her a very important question…

She looked at me like I was crazy when I first broached the topic. I thought her eyebrows were going to shoot clean off her head, but then I explained how much Jessie means to me. I explained that we both feel the same way, this identical primal directive to be together, to never be with anybody else.

“I need to talk to Jessie about this,” Claire said, nodding. “I hope you understand.”

Of course, I understood, but I asked Claire not to give the game away. She smiled and tapped her nose, getting a look in her eye that reminded me so much of my Jessie.

Thankfully we met again later that day when she sent me a text saying she’d decided. I drove through the city as fast as I could without breaking any laws, cursing the traffic and the speed limit as I raced toward Claire’s workplace.

The second I saw her, her smile told me everything.

“I’m not saying it isn’t completely crazy,” she said, “but Jessie says she feels the same. I’ve never seen her like this before. She seems so… confident, so certain this is the path she wants to take. Whatever’s happening here, it’s real.”

My chest glowed at her words, as the force of them swirled through me, telling me the future we were planning was going to happen. I didn’t let myself think about what I’d do if Claire had said no. I was just buzzing with gratitude that she’d given me her blessing.

The clock flickers as another minute passes, bringing me back to the present and one step closer to the most important question of my life.

My hand strays to the top drawer of my desk, but I don’t trust myself to reach inside. Otherwise, I’ll charge through the office now, but this time I won’t want to bend her over the desk…

Fuck, that’s a lie.

I always want to bend my woman over the desk, pull those tights down to reveal her hot tight hole, drive up inside of her until she’s gasping and quivering and begging me for more.

But first I’d get down on one knee, despite the unusual nerves hammering in my chest. I’d get down on one knee and ask her…

A knock at the door jolts me from my thoughts. I look up to find Carmen striding across the office, a wide smile on her face.

“What is it?” I ask.

“It’s Jessie.”

A quiver of worry strikes me, but Carmen’s smile puts that to rest. “I’m so proud of her, Jax. She just made some very insightful suggestions at our weekly meeting. Usually, she sits there quietly, too scared to say anything. But it’s like she’s changing, coming out of her shell. I always knew she would.”

I smile, really smile. It’s the first time I can remember feeling so giddy and excited, like a kid on Christmas morning.

“She’s not changing,” I whisper. “She’s just stopped doubting herself. And I couldn’t be prouder.”

I toyed with lots of ideas for where to ask the question, but in the end, I knew it had to be the roof. Perhaps other people wouldn’t understand the significance this place holds for us, but the rest of the world doesn’t matter where my woman and I are concerned.

The roof was the place where we revealed our feelings, where we stopped questioning if a romance like this could really be true.
