“Well, well. I didn’t expect to see you back here,” he chides as his wicked stare lights with excitement. “I’m going to have fun with you.”

My gaze drops back to the floor of the dirty cage, not caring for anything he has to say, but my lack of fight only seems to get him off. “Wow. DeLorenzo really fucked you up, huh? Look at you, you haven’t got even a scrap of dignity left. But don’t worry, I’ve got the perfect place for used-up little whores like you.”

I roll my eyes.

His intimidation tactics didn’t work on me before, and they sure as hell aren’t working on me now. Does he really think a woman who’s spent time with Killian DeLorenzo is going to crumble at his lackluster threats? He’s fucking kidding himself.

Clearly not receiving the show he’s hoping for, Broken Nose eventually slinks away, and I go back to ignoring the world around me, desperately trying to get the images of the past few hours out of my head, but it’s impossible. They’re etched into my brain for eternity, and nothing will make it go away. Nothing will ever make this okay.

The auction gets underway, and I’m not surprised when I’m up first. They want the boring bitch out of the way so they can get to the exciting girls of the night—the girls who are putting on a show, the ones who are drumming up the wrong kind of interest in their desperation to survive.

The bidding is low, and when I hear Broken Nose join the party, sounding more chuffed than ever, all I can do is let out a resigned sigh. He’s only put up three hundred grand so far, whereas last time, he was pushing his limits at over a million dollars. The asshole probably thinks he’s getting a good deal.

Someone else bids, and I don’t even bother to look up. “Four hundred.”

“Five,” Broken Nose says.

The other guy doesn’t respond, and when the auctioneer calls it, declaring me sold, Broken Nose cheers, fist pumping the air as though he just won a prize, but what the hell does he think he won? A woman so broken she can’t even find the energy to get up? A woman torn to shreds and marred by the actions of other men?

I guess congratulations are in order. He’s just got himself a wreck. Good job, asshole. Even the other vile men walking around were capable of taking one look at me and seeing that I wasn’t worth a single cent and knew to look past me.

But not this asshole—my brand-new owner.

Fun times.

His only goal was to break me, but how the hell does he think he’s going to break someone who’s already shattered beyond repair? What a fucking joke.

Needing to put my whirlwind depression on pause to know what the hell is about to happen to me, I watch Broken Nose march across the auction house to the piece of shit who just violated me in the tunnel cell to turn over his payment.

The two of them look at me, and the owner smirks, making my blood turn to poison in my veins. Bile rises in my throat at having his sickening stare on me, and though Killian isn’t here, I still believe he’ll come eventually. I won’t be here when he does. It’s too late for that, but when he finds this smug asshole, he’ll end his miserable life and make him suffer the most brutal death, and that’s the only thing that keeps me breathing.

Killian will learn who purchased me, and in a matter of hours, he’ll be right there to take me home. He always told me not to think of him as my hero or a knight in shining armor, but how could I not? I know he’ll come for me, and when he finally saves me from this wretched hell, everything can be just as it was.

The owner nods to one of the guards—the third man to force himself inside of me—and not a moment later, he makes his way across the auction floor to my cage. Taking the lock in his hand, he begins to release me as Broken Nose comes over to claim his prize, not even waiting for the end of the auction to take me back to his hell hole.

The cage door opens, and the guard reaches in and grips my arm, his dirty nails digging into my skin as he yanks me up off the ground. “Shame you’re not going to be sticking around,” he murmurs, a sickening grin lingering on his vile lips. “I wasn’t nearly done having my fun with you.”

I spit in his face as I hold his stare. “I’m really going to regret not being here to watch as my husband slaughters you like cattle.”

Broken-nose guy laughs, booming with excitement as though he just made some risky bet in a casino, only to learn it’s paying off. “Ooohhhh. I knew she had a little more fight in her,” he grins before reaching for me and tugging me toward him. “Hope you’re fucking ready, bitch.”
