“Anais has taken her home.” I spin on him; sure I am not hearing him right.

“What the fuck did you just say?”

“Boss, she phoned from the car while they were driving to let us know they had left the party.”

“Who the FUCK gave the orders for that?” My mind is conjuring the worst case scenarios. Is it possible Anais is the mole, and she has succeeded in ripping my heart out. How the hell did she get her out of the mansion.

“The Queen did, Boss.” Wait. What?

“She did what?”

“Well, apparently something happened on her way to the bathroom and she seems to have become ill. Anais was coming to get you and she told her not to. She ordered her to take her home. Seems Anais resisted, but then The Queen reminded her, she was also her Boss.” I find myself chuckling. I am equally proud of her and pissed as shit. I am going to heat her fucking ass up and then fuck the shit out of her. I love that she has found her voice and now knows her place and power. But she broke the rules and more than that, she put herself in danger. That will never be tolerated. Furthermore, if she wasn’t feeling well, she should have had them come and get me. No. Something is wrong. I am getting that feeling I was having earlier.

Parked, I race through the front door screaming her name. Outside, the thunder is rolling mimicking my voice and the beating of my heart as my anxiety about her safety turns up. “JEWEL!” Taking the stairs two at a time I slam the bedroom door open only to be flummoxed for the first time in my life. I am watching as my woman is frantically throwing the clothes she came to me in in a bag. I think it’s hilarious she believes she has the option to leave. Leaning against the door, I simply stand there and wait for her to notice me. I know the moment she feels me because her back straightens and her breathing hollows out. You can't buy a connection like that. “Going somewhere?” I ask her purposely giving nothing away.

“Yes. I am leaving.” Interesting.

“May I ask why?” Like it fucking matters.

“I don’t like being made a fool of.”

“How are you being made a fool of Jewel?”

“I heard you in that room having your meeting. I heard what you said.” Now I am like Alice in Wonderland because I am not following this shit.

“What did you hear exactly, that makes you look like a fool?” She stops for a second, shoulders hunched over body shaking and I know she is crying. I know I have done nothing, but I will do anything to make her tears stop. Her sobs are gutting me more than any machete ever could. Walking up behind her, I wrap my arms around her. “Please stop crying, baby. Your tears are drowning me.” She stills, body tight as a metal rod and then spins on me.

“Don’t touch me,” she scolds me and turns her back on me.

“Would you tell a painter not to touch his own artwork?'' I ask her calmly as I admire mine. “I don’t know what it is you are trying to accuse me of, but lest not forget I own you, little bird. Look in the mirror. At every angle you turn, you wear my mark. So with your body I can do as I wish.” I whisper in her ear, running my hand up and down her hip. She may be in a tank top and shorts, but to me, she is always naked. She wrenches herself from my grasp, grabs her bag and walks out the room. I follow lazily, not worried because there is no way they are letting her off this compound. The lightning crackles the sky, sending streaks of energy through the atmosphere matching the inside of me. I am so fucking hard right now watching her confidence and determination. My body is getting jacked up, anticipating the punishment. I watch as she walks straight out of the door into the rain. “They are never going to let you out of here.” I tell her as I remove my shirt. “Neither will I. Now get the fuck out of the rain Jewel.”

“Why? What’s the point when all I am is your toy,” she screams at me flinging her bag on the ground. Her tears stand out like flashing lights against the rain, searing my skin as they fall. When she turns her back to me once again, I grab her unable to hold back.

“Because I am going to play with you for the rest of our lives. Now tell me what the hell is going on.”

“I hea-heard you when I was going to ladies' room. I heard you say I was nothing but arm candy.” Shit. I don’t know what hurts worse. Knowing she thought I was talking about her, or the fact that she can still think she means nothing to me. Turning her to face me, I let my face fall.
