Running a hand down his face, he grabbed his clothes and stepped out of the bedroom. He changed and quickly made his way into the sitting room. Wanda was there, snuggled with Bruno and Ernie.

What he was about to do was dangerous.

He stepped over to her and ran his hands across Wanda’s head. “I love you, girl, but I need you to stay here for me. I need you to take care of my woman for me. To protect her while I’m not here.”

Wanda gave a little whimper. He smiled. This was dangerous. He got to his feet and looked at all three dogs. They’d protect Aria.

He stepped out of Aria’s house, headed toward his truck, pulled out his cell phone, and dialed Bull.

“I’m ready.”

Chapter Eighteen

“This plan is not going to work,” William said.

Grant didn’t know why his brother had contacted William fucking Ranford, but either way, he’d arrived at Bull’s house, along with the crap he was spewing.

“Why are you here?” Grant asked.

“I think we should listen to him,” Maddie said. “He’s faced this person before. We haven’t.”

“Are you all seriously doubting my ability to keep you alive?” Grant asked.

“We’re not doubting it,” Pat said. “But it would be good to get another’s input on who we’re dealing with. Miguel is a new enemy.”

Grant ran fingers through his hair. “Do you guys not get the fucking timeline right now? I had twenty-four hours to kill Maddie and Lindsey. We’re now down to like seven and I’m not going to have fucking corpses and shit. It was a horrible idea. You have to admit that was a bad idea,” Grant said, looking from Bull, to Maddie, to Pat, then to William.

Rusty and Rip agreed with him. “Sorry, Prez, but Grant’s right. That was bad.”

“And you think bringing Miguel and his men here is going to work? My daughter is right fucking there!” He pointed toward the crib that was currently protected with some pink cushions.

“I told you. That’s why Rusty and Rip are here. They’re going to create enough of a distraction for Pat to swoop in and take Lindsey before all the guns start going off. It’s going to be touch and go, but it requires you to be tied up and perhaps take a few punches,” Grant said.

“Your whole plan revolves around you going off the rails, right?” Pat asked.

“Pretty much.” He looked toward Pat and waited. “You got a problem with that?”

“With your reputation, I’d say this is a dangerous one, but in all honesty, I think it’s the only one that will work.”

Bull rolled his eyes. “You cannot seriously think this is going to work?”

“Why not? Your plan was going to get us all killed. No doubt about it. Using corpses is like the oldest trick in the book. Even in movies, that no longer works. With Grant’s record of being flighty and then the loss of Aria, this is probably the best solution.”

Bull threw his hands in the air and Grant couldn’t help but feel that sinking sensation in the pit of his stomach. His brother wasn’t going to let him do this. He didn’t trust him enough to do it. He stood and waited.

“This is dangerous, Grant.”

“I know.”

“You, me, we could all be killed.” Bull’s hands were clenched into fists.

“I know, but I’m not going to let that happen.”

Bull shook his head and then moved to Maddie. He cupped her face and kissed her.

“I trust him,” Maddie said.

“So do I,” Bull said. “But I’m sure he understands my nervousness. If this was Aria, he’d be questioning me.”

“Without a doubt,” Grant said. He missed Aria. Could still smell her on his skin. He wanted her again.

This had to work. Once they took out Miguel, the plan was to go straight on the attack. They already had the boys on call, not just at Carnage, but all Chaos and Carnage charters. They were ready for the call.

Grant wanted this done. He was tired of Miguel and the Cartel hanging over their heads. It was time that the last area of control from their father was gone. Chaos and Carnage MC belonged to Bull. He needed to run it without that threat.

“Okay, let’s do this.”

“It’s going to need to look authentic,” Grant said.

“How?”

Grant slammed his fist against his brother’s face as hard as he could. Bull hadn’t been expecting it and so he fell to the floor. “Kind of like that.”

“You fucking … I mean it, Grant, this better fucking work.”

Grant put his boot on Bull’s back and he cringed as he did so. “Don’t get up quite yet. I’ve got to make it look like you’ve been dragged.”

“Is this really necessary, Grant?” Maddie asked.

“I’ve not started on you.”

“If you punch my woman or hurt her in any way—”

“Shut up, Bull. I won’t hurt her.” With his boot print on Bull’s back, he then turned his brother over and hauled him up. “Have you put on weight?”
