He’d walked her home, and once at the door, he’d debated whether to kiss her. Aria had answered that for him by quickly escaping into her home. There hadn’t been any time for a kiss. Which fucking sucked. He would love to feel those plump lips pressed against his.

Anyway, he didn’t get his wish, and now he’d gone to the kennels, took care of the dogs, but Pat’s warning the other day didn’t sit well with him.

All the bullshit at the club didn’t matter. Yes, he was pissed that Pat was wearing the VP patch. He didn’t realize how much it bothered him, until he actually saw it, but now that he did, he had a big issue. That patch was his. Besides that, two dogs were missing. They didn’t come from his kennels, so the only place that left was the animal shelter.

Locking up the kennels for a few hours, he took Wanda with him to his truck, and they drove out toward the animal shelter.

After Bull got involved with Maddie and they uncovered what was happening at the shelter, the club had invested a lot of money. All the brothers were huge dog lovers.

He arrived at the main parking. There weren’t many cars parked, nor did he see any bikes. Climbing out of his truck, he looked toward Wanda. Her ears were down and she didn’t look happy to be back at the shelter. He could imagine it had bad memories for her.

“You stay here, girl. Bark if you see anything. Kill whatever motherfucker comes near you.”

He closed his truck and locked it. There was no way he was letting anything happen to the dogs on his watch.

Stepping into the main reception, he saw Hellen on the front desk. She was one of many volunteers, but he did believe the club now paid her.

“Hey, beautiful,” he said, moving up to the counter.

“Grant, hey,” she said.

His charm never worked on her, but it was worth a shot.

“How are you doing?” he asked.

“Fine. Fine. Yourself?”

“I heard about the dogs. Any luck finding them?”

She shook her head and he saw the worry in her eyes. “No. None.”

“Do you mind if I take a look at the security system?” Grant asked. Ever since they had uncovered the dogfighting as well as Maddie’s attack, they had put in security cameras.

“Yes, of course. The club has already been by to see it.”

“I’m sure they have, but I’m thinking a fresh new set of eyes…” He winked at her. “You know, just for the sake of it.”

“Sure. Sure.”

Hellen handed him the keys and he winked at her again, but this time he made his way toward the security room. The club could suspend his ass all the wanted but it didn’t stop him remembering shit, like where the security room was. Stepping inside, he looked at all the cameras, the angles, the screens.

“Okay, so how the fuck do I do this?” He sat at the main desk and then at the main board, reminding himself where to click.

There was a small computer on the desk, and with a few keys pressed, he was able to remember and see where they stored the old security footage that had been taken over the course of the past few days. He drew it back to the day Pat came to see him, and then moved toward the day before. He was able to speed it up a little, to watch the dogs being walked and to see people coming and going. For two hours, he watched the same segment of the security footage, on and off, being clear. Pretty much playing “spot the fucking difference.”

“You know Bull is going to be pissed at you,” Maddie said, making him jump.

He spun around to see her standing in the doorway, with a baby strapped to her chest.

“Fucking grass,” Grant said, glancing past Maddie’s shoulder, but Hellen was nowhere to be seen.

“I’m glad she told me.” Maddie moved into the room, keeping the main door shut. “How have you been?”

“Peachy.” He clicked on the screen and turned toward her. “What do you expect?”

“I expect you to talk to me, Grant.”

He shrugged. “I take it, you know Bull’s suspended me. Should you even be talking to me?”

“Yes, I know what Bull did, and he says it’s a club decision and trust me, I had nothing to do with it. It’s why I’m here. I want to see how you’re holding up.”

“Still here.”

“Grant, cut the crap. I get it. You’re an asshole when you feel threatened and all the crap that leads up to it. But this is me we’re talking about.” Maddie moved beside him and took a seat. “And I’m with your niece.”

He looked at his niece and she was wide awake. Love bloomed in his chest.

“She’s gorgeous,” he said. “I’ll sharpen my hunting knives. She is going to have men drooling after her.”
