It felt like he was about to tell her that it was all over. That she wouldn’t see him again.

When he drew up outside her building, she reached for her seatbelt. He placed his hand over hers. “Wait until I come around.”

“You don’t have to take me upstairs. I can get up by myself. Do it all the time, you know,” she managed to say in a teasing voice. Or at least she thought she did.

He shot her a sharp look. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.”

Reaching out, he grasped hold of her chin. “No lies, Maeve. Only truths.”

“Only truths, huh?” she said quietly. “Why don’t you say what you want to say?”

He studied her. “And what’s that?”

“That you’ve had enough of me. One fuck and done, huh?”

“Shut up, Maeve.” Leaning in, he kissed her hard and fast. When he drew back, she was breathing quickly.

“Was that a goodbye kiss or . . .?”

“It was a ‘stop Maeve from saying stupid shit’ kiss.”

“Right. Okay. That’s an interesting sort of kiss.”

He shot her another look.

“And Maeve is shutting up now.”

“Come on, I’m walking you up. And don’t argue.”

She gasped dramatically. “I wouldn’t dare argue with you.”

“And stop lying.”

Okay, it might be the time to really shut up now.

“Soooo,” she said when they reached her door.

He turned her suddenly, pressing her against the door and kissing the hell out of her. “I’ll text you. Get inside.”

She stared at him, then nodded stupidly before moving inside.

Damn. Those kisses just sucked the brains out of her.

A knock startled her and she squealed. “What is it?”

“Lock the damn door, Maeve.”

Oh. Right.

Lock the damn door, Maeve.

Not I’ll miss you. I’ll text you. I really liked fucking you.

Just, lock the damn door.

After locking the door, she smiled.

And she had no idea why. Other than the fact that she was losing her mind.

Maeve walked toward her door, carrying a bag of groceries. She’d just sent her latest batch of creations off to their new owners so she figured she’d treat herself.

She came to a stop as she reached her door. Settled on the floor was a bunch of red roses.

Her breath caught in her throat. She hadn’t thought that Gray would send her flowers. Heck, all she’d heard from him was a quick text telling her that he would be busy for a while.

It had been a bit of a disappointment. She’d almost begun to wonder if there was something more between them.

But she was a booty call. She couldn’t expect him to be texting or calling her round the clock or asking for her to share BFF bracelets or something.

Although that would be super cute. She wondered if she could do something like that for her clients. Maybe matching collars and bracelets for them and their pets.

Ooh. Yes. She liked that.

Last night, she’d felt a bit down. So she’d cheered herself up with a Little night. She and Squish had watched reruns of all of her favorite cartoons until the wee hours of the morning, and eaten her weight in popcorn.

She might need a nap this afternoon. Luckily, she loved naps. She didn’t understand people who didn’t. How decadent was it to be able to sleep during the day? Of course, sometimes she slept too long while napping and then spent half the night awake, creating a bad cycle.

What you need is a Daddy to wake you up, then make sure you go to bed at a decent time.

An image of Gray putting her down for a nap swam through her mind. But that wasn’t who he was. Right?

No. Nope. She couldn’t see him being interested in her Little side.

Sure, he had some Dominant tendencies, but that didn’t mean anything. It definitely didn’t mean that he was a Daddy Dom.

But it was very sweet of him to send her flowers. She unlocked her door, then picked the flowers up and walked inside to set everything down on the table.

She unwrapped the paper from around the roses. Huh, that was weird, there wasn’t a note or anything that indicated what florist they came from. She picked up the roses, gasping as a thorn stuck into her palm.

Ouch. Shit. Had the florist missed some thorns? That was pretty crappy. She stared at the flowers, seeing each stem had one thorn.

Okay, that was a bit weird. Surely a florist wouldn’t miss one thorn on each stem.

A feeling of unease filled her and she hastily locked the door.

She was being silly. There was no reason to see the roses as anything other than a sweet gesture. How could they possibly be a threat?

Taking in a deep breath, she settled her nerves. Right. She needed a vase. She didn’t have one, but she’d seen something that would work down in the basement kitchen. She’d brave the creepy basement and go grab it. But maybe she should take a weapon with her. Just in case. She searched for her pocket knife.
