She’d never do it. Never leave the guys. They all knew that. But when she wanted a sympathetic ear, she came to Maeve. When she wanted someone to give it to her straight, she went to Cat.

Immy: No one thinks you’re the clown.

Maeve: It was just a joke.

Immy: Well, it wasn’t a very funny one.

Okay, so she had been feeling a bit down on herself. She shouldn’t be, though. There were lots of great things she could do, right?

Maybe. Sort of. Sometimes.

Immy: I’ve just had an awesome idea. You can come work with me. You can be my assistant. I need help since James left.

Maeve rolled her eyes. Like she’d just come up with that idea, huh? She suggested it every month since James quit on them. Maeve hadn’t liked James. He’d been a bit creepy.

Maeve: Maybe I’ll come visit soon.

Immy: Do it! We miss you, Maevie-baby.

Maeve: I’ll only come if you swear you won’t call me that.

Immy: I don’t make promises I can’t keep.

Maeve: Love you.

Immy: Ditto, kid.

Maeve had to roll her eyes. Immy was six months younger than her. If anyone was the kid of their group, it was her.

Sighing, she put her phone away. At least that weird feeling of being watched was gone. And she felt a bit less alone.

She had people who loved her. If she needed them, they’d drop everything to come help her. That was what family was.

What was he doing?

Gray knew he shouldn’t just turn up at her door like this. He hadn’t even texted her to tell her that he was coming. It was Friday night, she could be doing all kinds of things.

But when he’d gone to The Edge and she hadn’t been there . . . yeah, he’d decided to come looking for her. He didn’t know why he’d thought she’d know to go there.

He’d been so busy this past week, he’d fallen into bed each night only to have his mind work overtime.

He’d gone to text her several times, but what the fuck did he say? He didn’t do small talk. He didn’t text.

Although there were several times as he was jacking off that he’d wished he could hear her speaking to him. Maybe he should have video called her and had her touch herself while he watched.

But he had a feeling she might be too shy for that. It was too soon. Fuck, what was he thinking? It wasn’t like they were in a relationship. He could have fucking called her and asked.

Instead, he’d just done nothing . . . and now it was Friday and she was probably thinking he was never going to text or call.

Yeah, he was shit at this. Fuck, he was shit at non-relationships. What would he be like with an actual relationship?

Get it together, man.

He knocked on her door and heard some shuffling. He straightened. Was there someone in there with her? What the fuck?

Jealousy flooded him along with a large dose of possessiveness.

Not yours, asshole.

But if there was someone in there . . . he took a step back and forced himself to breathe.

“Gray?”

He raised his gaze up to meet hers. What was she wearing? She looked like a giant, purple teddy bear.

“What the fuck are you wearing?”

“What? Oh, this is my comfy tracksuit. It’s so soft. I wear it when I’m just lounging around at home. Do you like it?”

It was bright purple with some pink on the front. And it was fluffy. It even had a hood which she’d pulled up.

Yep, she looked like a fluffy teddy bear.

“Ahh, it’s cute.”

Her cheeks filled with red and she glanced at him nervously. “What are you doing here?”

He noticed that she wasn’t fully opening the door. Was there someone in the room with her? What was she hiding?

He raised his eyebrows. “You’re not happy to see me then?”

Her eyes widened with horror. “What? No, of course I am. I didn’t mean it like that. I’m so sorry.” Her very real chagrin over the idea that he’d taken offense made him feel guilty.

“Don’t be sorry,” he said. Fuck, he was tired. “I went to The Edge. I thought you would be there.”

“Oh. Was I meant to be?” she asked, looking confused.

“No, I just . . . it was stupid.”

Fuck. He couldn’t tell her that he’d been thinking about her, that he’d missed her.

This was sex. Purely sex.

Although, he was unsure why he was still thinking about fucking her when she was dressed like a giant teddy bear.

That was slightly disturbing.

Her face filled with softness. “You look tired.”

“I’m fine,” he barked.

She startled.

Ahh, fuck. He was tired and being an asshole. He just hated admitting to a weakness. He’d learned that as a child. Being weak meant you could be taken advantage of. Hurt.

He’d always told himself that when he got older, he’d never allow himself to be kicked around and used again. And he hadn’t been. Even if that meant he didn’t let many people close.
