But right now, none of that was as important as coming down his girl’s throat.

She worked him over, drove him higher and higher until he found himself groaning as he released in her mouth. She swallowed him down with a hum of pleasure.

When he was spent, he reached down to pull her up into his arms. He kissed her lightly. “Have I ever told you how fucking perfect you are for me?”

“Yes, but I never tire of hearing it.”

“You’re perfect for me, girl. Never fucking forget it.”

“I wouldn’t dare.”

Don’t fall asleep.

Don’t fall asleep.

If you fall asleep, then you’re going to have a nightmare.

Maeve hated this. She didn’t mind living here. She really loved Dahlia, she was a hoot. And yesterday, she’d met Emme who was also lovely.

She’d only been here four days, but Maeve really thought that she might fit in here. But there was one problem.

Okay, more than one problem, but right now, her biggest problem was not falling asleep.

At least, not without Gray being in bed with her.

Last night, he’d was late coming to bed. He’d been in Markovich’s office with him, working. She’d drifted off without meaning to, only to wake up in the middle of a panic attack, unable to breathe. She’d ended up hiding in the closet until she’d heard him coming into the bedroom.

And did you tell him what happened?

No, she did not.

Because he was already so busy and stressed. And it was all her fault.

He was working double time, trying to find her stalker. And doing his other work for Markovich, which mostly happened at night.

Markovich was stepping back to spend time with Dahlia, but Gray seemed to be taking on more responsibilities.

Once her stalker was found, things would get better.

And she was not going to complain. Because she had everything she could have ever dreamed of. She was not going to be ungrateful.

The door opened and she breathed out a sigh of relief before she could stop herself.

Oops.

She was meant to be sleeping.

Silly Maeve.

Gray had enough on his plate without worrying about her. She heard him move into the bathroom. The shower went on and she rolled onto her back.

Relax. He’s back.

The shower turned off and she closed her eyes, taking deep breaths. This was so hard.

Every time she closed her eyes, the panic started to build.

There was the sound of the door opening and she waited for him to climb into bed.

But he didn’t.

She felt someone on her other side. What was he doing?

“I know you’re awake, girl.”

“Uh-oh.”

“Yes, uh-oh,” he repeated. “Look at me.”

She turned as he crouched next to her. The bedside lamp was turned on. She squinted as she stared up at him.

“Hey there, Grumpy Bear.”

He brushed her hair off her face. “Couldn’t you sleep, baby? You didn’t have a nightmare, did you? I thought those were getting better? You didn’t have one last night . . . at least not while I was here.”

She squirmed.

Double uh-oh.

“Maeve,” he said sternly as he sat next to her on the bed. “Did you have a nightmare last night?”

“Maybe.”

“Girl, don’t you maybe me. You either did or you didn’t.”

Triple uh-oh.

Her bottom was clenching as she sat up. “All right, yes, I did.”

“And why didn’t you tell me? What happened? Wait. You were awake last night when I got home, weren’t you? Fuck. I was too tired to notice.” He ran his hand over his head, looking stressed.

That wasn’t what she wanted. In fact, the whole reason she hadn’t said anything was to keep him from worrying.

“I’m fine,” she told him, squeezing his leg with her hand.

He shot her an incredulous look. “No, you are not fine. You had a nightmare. Even worse, you kept that from me. You pretended to be sleeping. What are rules three and four, little girl?”

“Um, to not keep things from you and not to lie.”

She scratched her cheek and he drew her hand away. “No.”

No? Just no?

“You don’t get to be nervous of me. You know I would never harm you.”

“I’m not worried about you harming me,” she told him, aghast that he’d think that. “I just . . . you’ve got a lot going on. And most of it is because of me. I don’t want to add more to your plate.”

“You listen to me,” he said in a low voice. “The only thing I care about is you. I don’t care what the fuck else is going on. You come first. And hiding things from me is not allowed. Pretending things are all right is the same as lying and I won’t have it, understand me?”

“Yes, Grumpy Bear.”

“You’re in big trouble.” He drew her into his lap. “Fuck, girl. Don’t you know you’re my everything? What do I need to do? Get it tattooed on my chest?”

“There’s no room.”

“Oh, I’ll find room for that. If it means you’ll start to believe it.”
