Right?

I honestly wasn’t sure but I figured Addison’s rocking would let me know if I’d gotten it wrong, and that seemed to be a good barometer because he froze, not a wiggle in sight.

So maybe it’d been the wrong call?

“You still want to play?” The fidgeting came back and his hands started swinging as soon as I nodded, so I realized it wasn’t the who should do the changing part that he was worrying over.

“Yes, sunshine. You are going to show me your favorite princess dress and tiara, of course, and then we will play. Should the princess in question tonight have a tea party or an adventure?” Addison’s explanation of why princesses were so much better left me wondering if I should be getting out a tea set or preparing for battle.

“Both.” He shrugged casually like that should’ve been obvious. “Or they can paint or do sparkly pictures or they can use glitter if they’re very careful.”

Something about the way he said that last part said he had not always been very careful and I was going to walk away from this date sparkling like Tinkerbell had sneezed on me if I wasn’t the careful one.

“I’m not sure I can be careful enough with that, so let’s start with an easy game.” I didn’t want anything I could fuck up. “How about once you get dressed, you can tell me about your sparkly pictures?”

I wasn’t sure if that sounded safe or not, but he hadn’t listed that as a glitter project, so I was hoping I’d made the right call.

Either way, with how bright his smile lit up, I wasn’t going to tell him no.

“Yes, that’s perfect for first-date playtime.” Doing a twirl that looked like he already had a dress on, he beamed. “And you’ll have to come back again and again to finish it, so I’ll get more dates.”

Again, his logic was interesting, but in this case, I was looking forward to more and more dates. “That sounds like a very good plan, sunshine.”

Still wearing his thousand-watt smile, he stopped twirling long enough to rock back and forth on his toes. “So you want to come back again? We’re still on our first date.”

I had a feeling I was not looking at the most grown-up version of Addison, so I nodded and kept my response simple. “I’m having a lot of fun on our date, and how could I not want to go on a second date with a cutie who made sure I didn’t have to bring home leftovers?”

That got a giggle out of him as he bounced off toward a small hallway. “I’m very helpful and very fast and I’m going to be very pretty, Daddy Tate. I’ll be right back. Don’t even blink.”

Definitely not grown-up Addison.

“I won’t move, sunshine.” That got a giggle from him for some reason, so I just smiled as the happy hurricane raced toward either his bedroom or a playroom. I wasn’t sure which but I figured I’d find out sooner or later…and in the meantime, I was going to do more research.

There were actual legitimate articles about the lifestyle, not just dirty books and questionable online videos, which I appreciated, but it was the personal blogs I’d found which seemed like they’d provide the most accurate information.

I couldn’t imagine putting my life out there online but I had to admit it might just be a me thing because I’d been raised in another century. Still, I made a mental note to eventually have some kind of discussion about online privacy with Addison because he seemed like a blog posting kind of little.

And he’d have a thousand curious explanations about why he’d needed to tell everyone online about everything from our first date to our first more personal steps.

Yes, we were going to have that conversation sooner rather than later.

“I’m very pretty, Daddy Tate.” His singsongy voice said we probably needed to also discuss what that label meant to him.

I thought it was cute and he just made me smile, but I wanted to be sure I knew what I was signing up for first.

“I bet you look beautiful and sparkly.” Because that word came up a lot. “Are you ready to show me?”

“Yes.” His squeal-worthy reply had me trying not to laugh.

“Should I come to you or are you going to do a fashion show for me?” My question had him sucking in a breath at an excited pitch.

“Oh, a fashion show. Wait. I’m not ready.” It was obvious the plans had changed, so I just chuckled and did as I was told, waiting patiently and reading as he hurried around in the back of the house. “Just be patient, Daddy Tate.”

“I am, sunshine. I’m reading about a Daddy and his boy and how they met. You don’t have to worry.” I figured he’d enjoy the details and his giggle said I’d gotten that right.
