“It’s such a gorgeous day, don’t you think? I love the winter weather.”

He chuckles as the waitress hands us menus.

“I love winter weather too, but sweetheart, this isn’t real winter weather. You know that on the East Coast they get polar vortexes, right? It’s some climate thing where cold gusts coming from the North Pole sweep down through Canada, blanketing New England and the Mid-Atlantic in snow. The wind chill is absolutely horrendous too, and makes things feel about ten times more freezing. Are you sure you’re ready for that?”

I nod, even though the tip of my nose is probably a pink from the chill outside.

“I know, and I’m ready for it. I heard Uniqlo sells padded pants and warm parkas, so I’m ready to buy myself a new wardrobe.”

Blake laughs, throwing his head back so that a few of the other diners turn to look. Then again, a lot of the women here have been staring at him covertly ever since we walked in because he’s that handsome. His black hair is adorably scruffy and he’s got a five o’clock shadow on his chin that reminds me of how masculine he is. Plus, his physique is incredible. Even the bulky sweater can’t hide the breadth of his chest, nor the power in those strong arms.

I smile at him again, going a little loose and hot inside.

“I’m ready for New York weather,” is my smiling reply. “Bring it on!”

He chuckles low in his chest.

“That a girl. I like a fighter.”

I blush because if anything, I’m too much of a fighter. I’m sassy and independent in spirit, and sometimes I don’t compromise enough, even if it would do me good. I’ve put my foot in my mouth more than a few times, and regretted it often. But there’s no sense in telling Blake right now, not when things are going so well. After the waitress takes our orders, Blake turns to me with a serious look in those blue eyes.

“Honey, thank you for taking me to the Student Health Center. I had a good time with you and I appreciate the time you took out of your day to guide our conversation to something worthwhile and very important.”

I nod.

“Of course. But what’s wrong? You’re happy we went, aren’t you?”

He sighs, looking down at his napkin. One hand fiddles with it slightly, and I realize he’s a little nervous. Really? An alpha male like Blake Reynolds can feel nervous? I never thought I’d be the one to give a CEO butterflies, and yet it seems like the case right now.

“Well, I just wanted to let you know that I liked picking out those contraceptives with you,” he begins in a low, smooth voice. “It was fun, and that volunteer was a hoot.”

“Stephanie was, wasn’t she?” I nod. “Did you fill out the on-line questionnaire?”

“I haven’t,” he grins wryly. “But I will, I promise. The more important thing is that …”

His voice trails off slightly and I look into those navy eyes.

“What is it, Blake? I know the Stallion will fit you just fine.”

He shakes his head.

“No, it’s not that I’m worried about. Or it’s not the fit precisely, because it really doesn’t matter.”

I let out a giggle.

“Of course it matters. You can’t use something that’s too big or too small, otherwise it’ll slip off or break.”

“Yes,” he concedes. “It’s more than I don’t love using condoms, sweetheart. I like my girls bare and slick, and the best way to experience that is without anything between us.”

The silence stretches out for a few long seconds.

“You must be joking,” I begin.

But the CEO shakes his head, his gaze totally serious.

“I’m not. I want to enjoy you, honey, but I want you plush and ripe, directly on my hardness. I don’t want plastic between us, and I definitely don’t want something as ridiculous as the Stallion. I want to feel you directly on me, and trust me, you want to feel me in you too.”

I stare at him again.

“But what about getting pregnant?” I ask in a whisper. “You know if we do it without protection that I’ll be expecting in no time. I can’t go on chemical birth control either because it takes a while to set in. You can’t just start tomorrow, and besides, I don’t have a prescription from a doctor.”

Blake nods, his gaze suddenly hungry.

“I know, baby. This is a very important issue to you. It’s a very important issue to both of us, in fact, and I wanted to suggest alternatives if you’re open to them. For example, would you be okay with me pulling out at the crucial moment? I wouldn’t come in you. I’m forty, honey, and I’ve been doing this a long time. I know how my body works and I can pull out just before splashing you with my goodness.”
