“You what?”

“Yep. So if you turn up now, you’re going to make a liar out of me.”

“But . . . but I’m not sick. Loki! I can’t take the day off. I have so much work to do.”

“You’ve been working so much overtime that they owe you a day off.”

He wasn’t wrong there.

But still . . . she knew the work was going to pile up and she wasn’t sure she could deal with it all tomorrow.

Loki walked over to the kitchen and deposited her on the island. “Take today off. I’ll drive you to work tomorrow.”

She sucked in a breath. He’d guessed the reason for her panic attack.

“I have to drive sometime.”

“Why? You have me. I can be your chauffeur.” He gave her a mock bow and a salute.

She had to grin. “Oh, you’re just going to take me anywhere I need to go?”

“Yes, princess! I live to serve, princess! Whatever you need, princess! I am here for you. Your loyal servant.” This time he bowed so low that his hands touched the floor.

A giggle escaped her. “You know, I think I’m tired of walking. I think I might need you to carry me. My legs . . . they just don’t want to work.”

“Of course, princess. Might I offer my humble back?” He turned and she climbed onto his back.

He held her under her legs, hefting her up higher.

“I really shouldn’t play hooky, Ki-Ki,” she whispered.

“No one will know, Tink. Your secret is safe with me. Now, princess, shall I carry you to your bedroom so that you might get dressed in princess clothes?”

“Ooh, yes, take me there now.” He galloped toward her bedroom and carefully put her down on her bed.

“Princess, your humble servant has an outfit he has purchased for you. I’m not sure it’s up to your refined taste, but if you would indulge me . . .”

She waved her hand. “Please, go ahead.”

When he returned, she squealed in excitement. He was holding a pair of gorgeous pale green overalls with a sequined rainbow on the front. But that wasn’t what made her squeal.

Nope it was the fact that he was carrying a matching pair of overalls in a smaller size.

For Razzie.

“Where did you find these? They’re awesome!” She jumped up and threw herself at him, hugging him tight.

“I see your legs have recovered, princess,” he said formally as she drew back and grabbed the outfits. “Shall I leave you to get dressed or would you like your humble servant’s help?”

“Shoo-shoo!” she cried, waving her hands at him.

He left, and she quickly got dressed before putting the matching outfit on Razzie. She also added matching sequined headbands for extra sparkle.

A girl could never have too much sparkle.

And neither could a rainbow bear.

Some long rainbow socks, sparkly bracelets, and some bright eye makeup, and Isa-Bee was ready to face the day!

Finally, she stepped out of the bedroom and Loki started to immediately clap.

“Bravo, princess. You and Prince Razzie look positively rainbow-lescent.”

She giggled. “What are we going to do now?” Even though they’d never really talked about her Little, she’d always felt comfortable around Loki.

Because she knew he’d never put her down. He’d never make her feel ashamed.

“We are going to make a treehouse!” he said.

She gaped at him. “Really?”

“Really. I went and bought all the materials yesterday and I thought I’d—oomph.”

She slammed into him, cutting him off.

“I take it you approve?” he asked.

“Oh yeah. I approve.”

He smiled, but there was a hint of sadness to it. Like he thought he was losing her. “Good, Tink.”

Never gonna happen.

“What do we do first, Ki-Ki? Ooh, do I gets a hammer? Nails? What about one of those cool belts?”

“Hmm, I’m not sure I trust you with those things.”

She sucked in a breath. “How rude!”

“I might have bought you something, though.”

Of course he had. He was always buying her things he thought she needed. He disappeared into his room again, and when he returned, he was carrying a box.

“Come with me.” He walked into her bedroom and placed the box on her unmade bed.

Maybe she ought to start tidying up after herself.

But, nah . . . that sounded boring.

She tried to peer into the box. Isa was terrible with surprises. Loki had to hide her Christmas presents, or she’d sneak out when he wasn’t around to peek at them.

He gave her a stern look. With a huff, she stayed where she was. Then he drew out a pink builder’s belt filled with pink tools. He slid it around her waist, then crouched to tighten it.

“What do you think?” he asked, standing. She headed to the mirror.

“I look awesome! I think I could build a house! Maybe a mansion. Would you like that, Razzie?”

“Why would you need to build a mansion when you already have a home?” Loki asked.

“You’re right. But I can build a treehouse!” She glanced down at Razzie with a frown. “I need to get Razzie a belt.”
