“Daddy! Look at me! I’m riding!” Isa grinned down at where Remy held the reins of the very gentle, older mare he’d selected for her to ride.

“So you are, baby girl.”

Her grin was wide, her eyes sparkling with happiness. It was Saturday morning and Remy had picked her up and brought her out to Sanctuary Ranch to ride the horses. Loki was off with his friends for the day and he got to spend some time alone with his baby girl.

“You are doing such a good job,” he praised her. “You’re a natural.”

“It’s the cowgirl boots, Daddy,” she informed him. “You can’t be bad at riding a horse if you’re wearing cowgirl boots.”

“Cowgirl boots?” he asked.

“Yeah, cause these ones are pink and sparkly.”

Her entire outfit was adorable. She was wearing tight pants with a short, long-sleeved pink dress over them. And the cowboy boots. He’d also insisted she wear a jacket.

“Right, how about we go get some lunch?” he asked her.

“Nooo. I want to keep riding!”

“Baby girl, I’ve heard your stomach rumble three times. You need to eat. If you’re a good girl, I’ll bring you back another day.”

She sighed. “Okay, Daddy.”

He helped her down and showed her how to take care of her horse. Then he grabbed the picnic lunch he’d packed them. They walked to a quiet area to set it up. Sitting down, they ate in silence.

“This place is so beautiful,” she said as he started to pack everything up.

“Not as beautiful as you,” he replied.

She grinned at him.

“I’m just going for a walk!”

Isa turned to Remy at the sound of a woman’s voice.

“Caley, you need to come home and rest.”

Caley? The Caley? The one who lived with the two docs and who wrote her favorite books?

Holy. Crap.

“I want some fresh air. You don’t need to follow me.”

A blonde woman stepped out of the trees. She was gorgeous, even frowning and glaring back at the big man with dark-blond hair who was stomping along behind her.

Unfortunately, because she was too busy scowling at him, she wasn’t watching where she was going and she ended up tripping on a tree root.

Isa gasped.

Thankfully, the large man with her had reflexes like a cat. He jumped forward and grabbed her, carefully drawing her against him.

Caley gasped for air, looking frightened. “What . . . how . . .”

Isa watched as she rubbed her hand over her stomach. Was that a small bump? Was she pregnant?

“Are you all right?” the man asked, frantically running his hands over her.

“I’m fine. I didn’t fall. I’m fine. We’re fine. Daddy, we’re fine.”

The man stopped his frenetic patting, frowning as he put his hands on his hips. “You nearly tripped.”

“Because I was too busy staring at you. If you’d let me come for a walk alone, I wouldn’t have tripped!”

Remy cleared his throat, and they both turned to look at them. Caley went red while the man just glowered.

“What are you doing here?” he snapped.

“Having a picnic,” Remy said calmly. “Doc, Caley, this is Isa.”

Doc nodded. “Met a few times.”

“Hi.” Caley waved. “Sorry about the Doc-Caley show. It’s free and amusing, but sometimes frustrating.”

“Very,” Doc said. He looked Isa over. “This is your girl?”

“Yep.” Remy wrapped his arm around her shoulders.

Doc grunted. “She looks pale. Have you had any blood tests lately?”

Oh great. She pinched her cheeks. She was pale?

“Doc, you can’t just go around telling people they’re pale,” Caley said.

“Why not?” He frowned at her. “You’re pale too. That’s it. You’re not leaving the house again.”

“Until . . .” she said.

“Until what?” he snapped.

“You’re meant to say you’re not leaving the house again until you’ve had this baby.”

“Why the hell would I say that?” he asked.

Caley threw her hands up in the air. “I give up. I give up.”

“On me?” Doc paled.

Isa’s breath caught in her throat at the look of horror on his face.

“I would never give up on you,” Caley said fiercely. “Not ever.”

“Good, because I wouldn’t let you.” Doc drew her close to him and kissed her. When he pulled back, he seemed surprised to see them still there.

Doc cleared his throat, glaring over at them. “Has Isa got sunscreen on?”

“Um no,” Remy said.

She looked up at the sky in confusion. It wasn’t really sunny today. He’d also made her wear three layers, including this jacket.

She didn’t think there was a chance of her getting sunburned.

“You should always wear sunscreen,” Doc said.

“Um, okay,” she said.

Caley rolled her eyes, but she was smiling, her hand in his. “We’re going to leave now and let you finish your day in peace. Besides, I think this button wants fed.” She ran her hand over her tummy.

“You’re hungry?” Doc asked. “Why didn’t you say so? We’ll get you home immediately.”

“You think he would be more blasé about this considering he’s a doctor, right?” Caley asked.

“Blasé about you carrying my child?” Doc growled. “I don’t think so.”
