“Is there anything we can do to make her more comfortable in Little headspace?” Remy asked.

If anyone would know, it would be Loki.

Loki looked thoughtful. “She’s close. She might just need to feel safe. Maybe a nudge. I was thinking when we go to Aunt Marie’s . . . well, there are two spare bedrooms here with nothing in them. Perhaps one could be a playroom.”

That was a good idea.

“Could be my job after this one,” Loki said.

“I’ll help.”

The longer they spent together, the more comfortable they got with each other.

“Oww! Ouchie!”

Loki flew down the tree, Remy following close behind.

Isa was bouncing around, holding her hand.

Shit! What had she done?

“What is it? What did you do, Tink?”

“I banged my finger.” She held the finger up and it did look red.

“Poor Tinkerbelle.” Loki took gentle hold of her hand, touching her finger. “Can you wiggle it?”

“I d-don’ts know.” Her lower lip trembled and Remy wanted to do whatever was necessary to stop her from being sad.

“Try for Ki-Ki.”

“Okays.”

She wiggled it back and forth.

“What did you hit it with?” Loki asked, moving to the basket of food.

He pulled out a First-Aid kit.

Huh. That was smart thinking. Loki pulled out an ice pack and cracked it to activate it.

“My h-hammer.”

Loki frowned down at her. “Isabelle, you’re not supposed to use your tools without supervision.”

“You said I could make whatever I wanted for the treehouse!”

“I thought you were going to draw a picture or something,” Loki told her as he applied the ice pack to her finger.

“I wanted to build a kitchen.”

“If you want a kitchen, I’ll build it,” Loki said firmly.

“Sorry.” She sniffled sadly. “Do you think you’ll have to chop it off?”

“I don’t know,” Loki replied. “It’s close.”

Isa nodded. “I thought so.”

“But you are being very brave, so I might be able to save it.”

“Good.” She heaved out a sigh of relief.

“But you’re still in trouble for using your hammer without supervision.”

Loki watched Isa for any signs she was alarmed or horrified by his words. Her mouth dropped open and she looked slightly confused.

However, she didn’t look worried.

She trusts you.

And he’d never abuse that trust.

“In trouble? But I hurt myself.” She held up her finger.

“She still hasn’t been given her punishment for running off last night, either,” Remy said, leaning against the trunk of the tree. “We could possibly combine them. Twenty-five lines saying she will remember to wear a jacket when it’s cold outside. Another twenty-five lines saying she won’t use her tools without supervision.”

“Nooo.” Isa gave Loki a pleading look.

He’d normally fall for it. But he’d done some research on how to be a good Daddy Dom. And he had to follow through when a punishment was promised.

“And don’t forget the corner time,” Loki added.

“Thank you for reminding me,” Remy said.

She stomped her foot. “This isn’t fair.”

Loki tilted her head back and kissed her nose. “We don’t want you to get hurt, Tink. We just want to keep you safe.”

She sighed. “Now you sound all reasonable.”

Remy grinned and came over to kiss the top of her head. “I think we should head back to the house. Get the lines and corner time done, then some lunch before we head out.”

She pressed her hands together, wincing as the ice pack fell off.

“Oops. Sorry.”

“There’s nothing to be anxious about, Tink,” he soothed as he grabbed the ice pack.

“I know.”

“We don’t have to go today,” Remy said with a frown. “In fact, you look a bit pale. Maybe we should put you down for a nap instead.”

“No nap!” Isa said quickly. “I’m fine.”

Hmm. She did seem tired, though. Maybe an early night would be a good idea.

They packed up and headed back. Isa tripped half way home and Remy grabbed her.

“Careful, baby girl,” he warned. “We don’t want you getting any more owies.”

“That silly tree root has it in for me.” She pointed two fingers at her eyes then down at the branch in question.

Remy was grinning as he held her on his hip. She blushed, burying her face in his chest.

Satisfaction filled Loki.

This might not be a relationship that everyone would understand.

But fuck them.

Since when had he cared what others thought?

As he followed them a sharp, loud noise punched the air.

Gunshot!

Another. Followed by another.

Insurgents! They were here. The world around him faded and he was back there.

Men yelling!

Screaming! Dying!

His men. His friends. He had to help them.

Fight your way to them!

A hand landed on his arm and he swung around, ready to fight for his life.

“Loki!”

They were calling for him.

“Ki-Ki, you’re safe. You’re safe!”

Tink?

“Isabelle, stay back!” a male voice barked.

Where was she? Where was his Tink?

A hand rested on his arm. He tensed, ready to strike.

“Tap!” Tink cried. “Two quick, one heavy and slow. Let me get close to him.”

“No, you stay where you are,” the man snapped.

Who was this fucker? Where did he get off talking to Loki’s girl like that?
