He moved to a different screen, looking for his Pup. At this time of day he should be working. There, in his office. And he’d just spilled ketchup down his T-shirt and was dabbing at it with a napkin.

Which was making it worse.

The Fox had to grin. In some ways, his Pup was a walking disaster. He rarely remembered to comb his hair and he was constantly spilling food on himself and losing track of time. But he was kind and caring. The emotional support that his Bunny required.

The Fox was coming to realize how much she needed them both. He wasn’t sure he would ever have the emotional awareness that Brody had.

He quickly checked on Sunny. Urgh. Lip-locking with Duke. His sweet girl was perfect in so many ways. He still wasn’t entirely sure why she was marrying that biker.

Finally, he turned to the last screen.

Ahh. Now it was time for some fun. He smiled at the screen where Legend Jones could be seen sitting in his interrogation room.

Whistling, he headed downstairs. Time to see if he could get any answers. He had his suspicions about a few things, and he was hoping Legend Jones could help.

Not that he’d have much choice in the matter.

The Fox watched as the headquarters of the Devil’s Kingdom went up in flames.

He needed to get out of there before anyone spotted him.

Ha. Who was he kidding? No one would see him. He was an expert at remaining hidden. He’d made sure to leave an unmistakable calling card this time, though.

He was baiting a trap. And he needed the mice to pick up the cheese.

Mice? Cheese? What kind of analogy was that? He wasn’t trying to trap mice. They were . . . weasels? Hmm, yes, he liked that.

He was trying to catch himself some weasels. He headed away from the burning building to where he’d hidden another set of clothes down an alleyway. He quickly got changed and switched out his hat.

Hopefully, Mr. X would call him soon. Provided the calling card got into the right hands. The Fox knew he’d been causing Mr. X a lot of issues, disrupting his business. No doubt he was pissed off.

Good.

Climbing into the vehicle he had hidden several blocks away, he drove to a building he owned under a false company.

There he quickly swapped out the plates on the vehicle and peeled off the dark paint tint. It still wasn’t enough to disguise it completely, but he was moving to a different car anyway. Heading to the top of the building, he climbed over several roofs to get to another building. That’s why he’d bought these two buildings. They were close enough that he could move around without being seen.

Fuck, he was clever.

He really should get that medal.

He unlocked the door to the staircase, and climbed down into the building before getting into a different vehicle. This one was dark as well, but a smaller sports car. With plenty of horsepower under the hood.

As he drove through the streets, one of his phones beeped, letting him know he had a message and he hit the voicemail button.

“Fox, I know you’re getting these messages,” an irate voice blasted him.

He sighed. Jared Bartolli.

Yes, this wasn’t the first message he’d left. Yes, he was getting them and deleting them.

It was the same thing every time.

“Where is Angie?” Jared demanded while the Fox mimed his words. “I got you the invite to the auction, and you haven’t come through on your side.”

“Such a bore,” he muttered. He’d told the other man he’d let him know after he’d attended the auction. And then he’d sort of forgotten to contact him.

Well, and he also just liked pissing the other man off.

Driving into the parking building, he parked his car then checked around. He hadn’t seen anyone follow him, but he always remained careful. He got out, grabbed his go-bag, and headed to the elevator, keeping his face aimed down. It wasn’t like this was his real face anyway. Going up several floors, he walked out and over the sky bridge to the building next door. Where his car was waiting in the basement.

This time, he headed to his den. When he arrived, he used his phone to text an address to Jared Bartolli.

Let’s see how he would go about getting to Angie when she was under Zander’s protection.

He grinned. Oh, how he’d like to see that.

If there was anyone he could admire, it was Zander. The other man was almost as crazy as he was.

Moving to his security room, he checked his screens. Ah, his Bunny and Pup were sleeping. Good.

The fire was starting to hit all the news channels, who were wondering if there would be any survivors.

News flash. There wouldn’t be.

He was no amateur.

Things were good in his world. Getting up, he went to change out of this disguise.
