“If you ever dare to run out on me again,” Cohen growls against my ear, “I’ll give her a show that will cause her white hair to turn back to black and scandalize the grapevine for all eternity.” He smacks my rear end and reaches for my heavy bag.
As he follows me up the steps to my second-floor apartment, I can feel his warm breath on the back of my neck. He reaches for my keys and unlocks my door before taking my hand and dragging me inside my tiny efficiency apartment.
He kicks the door shut and turns the lock before dropping my bag on the counter. “Now, why don’t you explain what the fuck is going on.” I see hurt swimming in his light blue eyes and feel even worse.
I’m not even sure where to start, “I’m sorry. I woke up and didn’t know how to handle it. I got scared and ran out and instantly regretted it.” The word vomit just flows out as he stares down at me. “I knew I had to do something to fix it, so I had planned to go straight back to the club and find out where you live once I showered and put my clothes on right.”
Cohen’s eyes travel down my body, and his frown evolves into a little smirk as he realizes I’m a freaking mess. “I still don’t understand why you fucking ran out on me.”
“I don’t understand it either.” I shrug, hating that I hurt him. “I should’ve woken you up and talked to you, but I just freaked out.” After seeing the mess my flighty parents made of their lives, I’ve always been a planner. I never do anything without thinking it through and examining the pros and cons thoroughly, but that all changed last night when Cohen swooped in and stole my freaking heart. “I’m so darn sorry. Please, tell me you’ll give me the chance to make it right.”
When he pulls me into his arms and hugs me tight, I’m able to draw in the first full breath since I snuck out of his bed this morning.
“I forgive you this time, but if you ever pull a stunt like this again, I will cuff your little ass to my bed and keep you there.” He smacks my rear end again to drive home his message.
“Do I have to screw up to get handcuffed to your bed?”
Chapter 6
Cohen
My little speed demon is trying to give me a heart attack. When I woke up and found the other side of the bed empty, I almost lost my goddamn mind. I spent the entire drive to her small apartment talking myself down off the ledge.
I know things are moving fast, but I can’t imagine living my life without Calista now that I’ve had a taste of her sweetness. Her freak-out tells me I need to approach this carefully, so I don’t spook her again.
“How about if we shower together and then get some breakfast, and we can discuss our future plans?” My cock definitely likes the idea. The fucker has been hard as rock ever since I woke up this morning. Not even finding the other side of the bed empty did anything to relieve the pressure.
“That sounds like a terrific idea.” She smiles up at me. “Since my shower is definitely a one-person shower, could we maybe take this back to your place?”
“Hell fucking yes.” I hug her close. “Go pack a weekend bag, little speed demon.”
We end up deciding she’ll ride with me over to my cabin, and I’ll bring her home Sunday night to get her car. I haven’t informed my little speed demon of this, but I’m planning to make sure she never spends another night in this tiny ass apartment.
As I drive down the long, winding road that leads to my cabin, I take her hand in mine and bring it to my lips for a kiss. My heart has finally settled back into a normal rhythm, but this scare showed me how much my little speed demon means to me.
“It’s beautiful out here,” she states as I turn onto my long tree-lined driveway.
“Thank you.” I give her hand a little squeeze. “I bought the property and designed the cabin myself.”
“Wow.” She sits up and stares out the window as I pull up in the circular driveway. “That’s not a cabin, it’s a freaking mansion.”
“I might’ve gone overboard.” I smile sheepishly. “But I found the design online that called to me and decided to splurge on it.”
“I love it,” she tells me and reaches for the door handle.
“Wait. I’ll come around for you.” I hop out of the truck and rush around to her side.
“You really are a caveman.” She laughs. When I lift her curvy little ass up against my chest, she gives a little squeak. “What are you doing?”
