When it is all over and Mick has been revived and Bells is lying against the pillows giving the baby her first drops of milk, Joy leans her tired head against my shoulder.

“I want one,” she whispers.

“Me, too.”

Epilogue

Joy

“What?” I ask as I shove another cake pop into my mouth. I told myself I was learning to make cake pops at home so that I could make new content. I’m pretty sure I was lying to myself based on the amount I’ve already eaten. Cece is having the same problem I am. Neither of us can stop eating them. I am excited that we are knocked up together this time. Cece went and fell in love not long after Dane and I got married.

Dane’s eyes glance from me to our boys, who are sitting on the sofa watching cartoons at the moment. They are also eating cake pops. He shakes his head as he comes toward me. I’m sitting at the island in the kitchen.

The whole reason I picked this house was because of how open it is. It doesn't matter if you are in the kitchen, dining room, or living room; everyone can see each other. I was able to help design it, so it turned out exactly how I’d pictured it in my mind. We decided to build a home when I couldn't find anything I wanted on the market. I mean, the houses we looked at were all gorgeous, but none of them were exactly right. Then Bells started talking about moving too.

Mick and Dane hadn’t known what they were getting themselves into when they suggested buying land and building. Both of them had started getting irritated with all the open houses we’d been going to at the time. Bells and I had been so into the idea. More so because we could build next to each other. I love having them so close to us.

As crazy as we drove them and the contractors, it was worth it. It gave Dane peace of mind too. Every now and then he has to track down a skip late at night. It makes him worry less about us knowing his brother Mick lives right next door. On a dead run I think Mick could get to our house in a minute. I wouldn't be surprised if the two of them have tested this theory out and actually timed it.

Both of them made sure to put in crazy security systems. Dane can open his phone from anywhere in the world and see all of the downstairs with the cameras he installed. He also has cameras outside. These two are not messing around about our security around here. I think it also has a little to do with me accidently pissing off a motorcycle club when I went on a job with him once. That started his crazy obsession with keeping me safe. I don’t care where he puts cameras as long as it makes him feel better.

When he gets to me, he places a hand on my growing stomach and gives me a deep kiss that leaves me breathless.

“Don’t make yourself sick.”

I huff at his words. “Are you saying I’m eating too much?” He would never say that, but I still love poking him from time to time.

“No, I’m saying that last time you got a belly ache.” I did. I pick one of the cake pops up, offering it to him. He leans down opening that wonderful mouth of his and takes the whole thing in one bite.

“You like? This batch tastes sweeter.” I’m not sure why. I thought I did it the same as the last time.

“I know something that tastes sweeter.” He leans down, giving me another kiss. It’s like the last, leaving me breathless again. Why is he trying to turn me on right now? There is no way that he can do anything about it, considering the boys are on a sugar high. They need my eyes on them. This is when they get themselves into trouble usually.

“And that’s my cue to leave. I’ll call you later.” Cece snags a few of the cake pops and shoves them into her purse before she makes her way to the front door.

“Why do you do that to me?” I know he sees how flushed and turned on I am now. It never takes him much to get me there. More so since I entered my second trimester. With each of the boys I’ve been the same.

“Because I can’t help myself when it comes to you.” That mouth of his is all-around good. “Why don’t you call Bells and see if she can watch the boys for a little.” His suggestion makes the ache between my thighs grow worse.

“Boys. Get your shoes on. You’re going next door for a little.” I pick up my phone and text her. She responds in less than a second, telling me to send them on over. I would do the same for her anytime. They take off for next door, using the path that goes between our houses. Dane goes over to the window and watches them cross the field.
