“Which one was yours?” Gavin asked.
“That one,” I said, pointing to a room filled with my mother’s crafting equipment. “She changed it as soon as I went away to college. Always wanted her own craft room.”
I opened the next door. Gavin had deposited the suitcases here earlier in the day. They were pushed against a wall, and the king-size bed was inviting.
“This used to be Wyatt’s room, but just the guest room now.”
He toed the door closed behind him. “So, what happened with your mom?”
“She sort of apologized for how she’d acted, and she gave me the bracelet her dad gave her on her wedding day.”
His eyes sparkled in the dim light. “That’s big, Whit.”
“It was.”
Though I could hardly think of what my mom had said and was still focused on how clearly Wyatt had seen into my heart.
I’d never loved anyone before. I’d never used those words. They always felt cheap. Like people just said them to show affection and not when it was real. All I knew was that I didn’t want to go another second without Gavin. And I was looking forward to that moment when I walked down the aisle with him.
Was that love?
Did I love Gavin King?
He grinned at the look on my face and then drew me toward him. At the first touch of his lips on mine, the day was swept away. I dragged him closer to me.
“We’re going to have to be quiet,” I groaned.
“We can be quiet,” he said as he walked me backward toward the bed.
His hands slid under my skirt, dragging along my bare legs. I wrenched at his shirt, desperate to get him out of it, to feel his body against mine. My back made contact with one of the posts on the bed, and a squeak escaped me.
“Shh,” he murmured as he claimed my mouth again.
My panties hit the floor, and I kicked out of them as I worked his belt loose and dragged his pants down.
“Fuck,” he groaned as my hand slid into his boxers.
“Shh,” I reminded him teasingly.
He arched an eyebrow at me and then gripped my thighs with such force as he lifted me off of the ground. I inhaled a gasp as I wrapped my legs around his waiting waist.
“Mine,” he growled.
“Yes.” My voice came out breathy, almost a beg.
“Tell me,” he breathed into my ear as our bodies aligned.
“I’m yours.”
He thrust into me, and I cried out in a soft pant. He thrust in again, harder than before. I was not going to be quiet. There was no way I was going to be able to keep this in.
“More.”
He dropped me backward on the bed, burying himself even deeper inside of me. When my groans grew more insistent, he covered my mouth with his palm. My eyes widened as he drove into me again, holding me in place and claiming my screams for himself.
“All mine,” he told me as my eyes rolled back in my head.
I was close. So close already.
I could barely hold on as he picked up the pace.
“Fuck,” he ground out into my shoulder as I tightened around him.
Then, I couldn’t hold on any longer. I released as wave after wave shattered against the rocks. I was incoherent, seeing stars, as he shuddered and finished inside of me.
“Oh my god,” I whispered breathlessly.
He kissed my shoulder. “Good girl.”
Every breath from my lungs, every beat of my heart, and every thread within my soul belonged to this man.

WHITLEY
After such a magical weekend, I wasn’t ready to return to New York. I worried that the enchantment would burst when we went back to daily life. But things were just as wonderful in the city as they had been while visiting our families. We alternated sleeping at each other’s apartment. He picked me up with coffee every morning for work. We lounged around with our friends every weekend.
And every day, the wedding drew nearer. A thing that I’d thought would terrify me but was now … exciting me.
Are you sure I can’t come with you?
I laughed at the text from Gavin.
I don’t think the groom is invited to the wedding dress fitting.
But I want to see it.
You’ll see it in a week.
He responded with a pouty face, and I sent him back a picture of me sticking out my tongue.
Yes please.
I rolled my eyes again. Ridiculous.
“For whom exactly are you all smiley for?” Katherine asked, appearing at my side outside of Cunningham Couture.
I put my hand to my heart. “Hey! I didn’t know you were coming today.”
“To see you in the dress I helped design?” Katherine arched a perfectly manicured eyebrow. “You should always expect me.”
I laughed. “That’s fair.”
“So? Smiles?” She pulled the handle on the door. “Tell me everything.”
“Just Gavin.”
“Just? It seems someone is falling for their own trick.”
I couldn’t deny that even if I wanted to. When Gavin had shown up at my door a few short months earlier, begging me to be his fake girlfriend, I never would have thought we’d end up here. Where I’d be looking forward to my own wedding and not utterly dreading this thing we had ostensibly been forced into it.
