“I didn’t need that visual,” I said, grimacing over the rim of my too-hot tea.

“You get the point, though. I think secrets are fine. I mean, they’re even expected. No one tells someone else everything. Not best friends. No husbands and wives. Everyone is entitled to keeping some shit to themselves. This can be the thing you keep to yourself, while sharing all the other shit you feel comfortable with.”

“I guess that’s true.”

“I mean, clearly, you have made some attempts at connection. You and Nyx have some sort of friendship going on.”

“Yeah,” I agreed. “I like her.”

“And she runs in my circle. So you could spend time with me, time with her, time with some of the other guys if you’re comfortable with it.”

“So… you want me to… run in your circle?” I asked, schooling my features so he couldn’t see how something inside of me thrilled at that.

I mean, yeah, I’d been out of the dating scene for a really long time. I guess you could say that I was never really in it. What with my own unhandled trauma and my mom’s shitty example, I just never wanted to try for anything serious.

But I was close enough to the dating scene to know that it was a big freaking deal when a guy wanted to bring you around his people. I’d known girls who dated guys for months or even a year, and he never introduced her to his buddies.

It meant something if he immediately wanted to incorporate me into that world, didn’t it?

“Yeah, I mean, if this is something here,” he said, waving between the two of us, “then you and my people have to at least be able to be around each other.”

“Will I have to tell them about… what I do?”

“Think that might be something I gotta tell Slash. But he won’t share it if you don’t want him to. And then you can decide if you want to share that or not. Not like any of us are going to judge. We’ve all taken lives too. And not usually for as noble a cause.”

“That’s a good point,” I agreed, nodding.

I mean, who better to associate myself with, to expand my social circle with, than other criminals?

“You’re going to like them, baby. Detroit will win you over through your stomach. Slash will make you feel safe. Sway will… well, Sway might frustrate you with his manwhoring. But in his defense, every woman knows exactly what they’re getting into with him. Judge and Dell have kind of settled down in relationship bliss, so they’re chill. Riff and Raff aren’t around all the time, but Riff is calm and interesting. Raff is a fucking character. He’s a good time.”

“And the new guy?” I asked.

“Coach? Don’t know him that well yet. Likes philosophy and yoga. Oh, and he went to prison for trying to beat his sister’s boyfriend to death for hitting her.”

“My kinda guy,” I said, smiling.

“So, is that a yes?” he asked, shifting his feet. And something about his discomfort, his uncertainty in the situation made me feel a lot better about it too.

“Yes,” I agreed, giving him a small smile.

“So, you gonna make me drag my ass back to the club, or can I crash here so we can wake up and fuck again?” he asked.

Despite just getting him, my body sizzled back to life.

“Or fuck you again, catch some sleep, then go another round?” he asked, reading me perfectly as he took the mug from my hand and set it on the counter.

“Option one seems like the smartest solution,” I concluded. “What are you…” I started as he bent forward.

But then he was pushing his shoulder into my stomach, and lifting me up and over his shoulder, giving my ass that was now next to his head a hard slap.

Then, well, he dragged me up to my bed and we went with option number one.

It was very possibly the best night of my life.

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

Crow

I’d never spent a night at a woman’s house.

Sure, I’d passed out after some adult activities. But I always woke up, got dressed, and headed out.

Sex was always just a good time. Both parties understood that. And waking up together, well, I figured it sent the wrong message. So I made sure it never happened.

Waking up with Morgaine’s hair spread over my chest, her hand resting softly on my shoulder, and her leg thrown over my waist?

Yeah.

That was a good fucking feeling.

Though I was glad it was morning. And that we were heading into town to get her pottery. Because my ass needed to make a stop at the drug store and buy a fucking bulk pack of condoms.

Morgaine?

Yeah, the woman was insatiable.

I’d never met a woman who needed such little recovery time after she came, no matter how many times she came.
