Pulling her tank top over her head, I leaned up and pulled one of her nipples into my mouth, ignoring the way my body protested as she moaned. She tasted so good, a mixture of salt and Kara.

We undressed each other slowly, letting the anticipation build. Kara smoothed her lips over my chest and belly. I pinched her nipples until she gasped and then soothed them with my mouth. By the time she pulled off my shorts, I was so hard I was afraid that any touch at all would set me off.

I was wrong about that, because I somehow held it together as she wrapped her hand around my cock and took it into her mouth. My vision went black for a second as I let out a shuddering breath.

“Stop,” I stuttered, tightening my hand in her hair. “You gotta stop, baby.”

“Why?” she asked with a small laugh.

“Because I’ve been imaginin’ you ridin’ me for at least the last ten minutes,” I said as she crawled up my body. “And that’s not gonna happen if you finish me off with your mouth.”

“I liked you in my mouth,” she replied wickedly, making me groan.

“You’re gonna kill me,” I said as her pussy slid over my cock. “But what a way to go.”

She laughed as I rolled us until she was under me.

She stopped laughing when I returned the favor and slid between her legs, holding her thighs open so I could taste her.

It didn’t take long before she was gasping my name and pulling at my shoulders. I took my time moving back up her body, and when I’d reached her mouth, I let her roll me to my back. She took the lead then, reaching between us to position me before sliding down my length.

Perfection.

It didn’t take long for her to come and I was really fucking proud of myself that I held back a bit longer before I did, too.

We fit. In this way and a thousand others. I just hoped she remembered that the next time she thought about bailing—because even though I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt, I knew there would be a next time. No matter how present she seemed, there was always something just around the corner that was going to make her want to run again—real or imagined.

“Where you goin’?” I asked as she moved away from me.

“I’m going to clean up,” she said, kissing my shoulder as she got off the bed. “If I don’t do it now, I’m going to fall asleep.”

I enjoyed the view as she slid her tank top and shorts on, not bothering with underwear. She left the room quietly, shutting the door behind her, and I attempted to fix the top sheet that we’d pretty much torn off the bed.

I was grumbling under my breath, still messing with it, when she came back.

“I don’t know why you use a top sheet,” I said, realizing that I’d put the stupid thing on sideways.

“You don’t?”

“Why the hell would you need two sheets?”

“Were you raised by wolves?” she joked, helping me set the sheet right. “You use a top sheet because you clean the sheets a lot more often than you clean the quilt.”

I looked at her in confusion.

“That’s why you have a top sheet,” she said, laughing a little. “Because you clean the sheets like once a week or more, and quilts or comforters are a pain in the ass to wash, so those are cleaned less often.”

“Huh,” I said, looking down at the bed.

“The top sheet protects your quilt from the funk,” she said, getting undressed.

I was instantly distracted from the conversation. I shook my head. “Sorry, I’m not followin’.”

She grinned and shook her hips a little before climbing back into bed with me.

“You wanna try and sleep for a while?” I asked as she notched her leg over mine, her body nearly on top of me.

“If you don’t care?” she said with a yawn. “Just for a little while.”

“Fine with me,” I said, spreading my fingers wide over her hip. Shit, I’d lay in bed for the next week if we were going to do it naked.

As Kara fell asleep, my mind wandered to the conversation I’d had with my parents earlier. It had pretty much been a shit show after I’d walked into the house.

My parents were in the living room when I’d let myself into the house. The power was still out, but it was bright enough inside that my mom was looking over some kind of paperwork while my dad cleaned an old revolver that I’d never seen him carry, but he babied like a third child.

“You showed up,” my dad remarked, looking up from the pistol. “Good. You wanna explain what that shit was about last night?”

“Not especially,” I replied, leaning my hip against the couch. “It’s between me and Curt.”
