Vince didn’t want a relationship.

Vince didn’t want anything serious.

Vince was maybe still in love with the asshole who hadn’t deserved him.

And of course Vince glanced his way just then and noticed Colby looking at him. “What?” he asked, his gaze returning to the road.

What was he supposed to say? That he was analyzing how sexy Vince was? Wishing that if there was a person he could be different with, that it would be Vince, before realizing that Vince would never want more with him? He settled on, “Nothing. Just hoping that when we get home, we can continue where we left off back at the farm.”

They hadn’t kept messing around after that, had enjoyed their laughter together, the way they always did, before going back to work.

“That can be arranged. But shower first. Then naked playtime,” Vince said, and Colby snickered.

“I can handle that.”

When they got home, Vince’s aunt ended up calling him, so Colby showered alone. Vince was still on the phone when Colby got out, so he got dressed and grabbed some chicken to season while his smoker grill warmed up. He put together a quick salad, wondering if Vince would give him a hard time if they had cereal with dinner, then sat out back while the food cooked. It was halfway done when Vince came out in his backward ball cap, shirtless, in a pair of basketball shorts and slides, clearly having gotten out of the shower.

“Sorry about that.” Vince sat in the chair beside him, the trees close to the house giving them shade.

“No worries. I thought about making a bowl of cereal for dinner but figured you’d give me shit.” He snickered.

“You like it. You can’t pretend you don’t.”

The thing was, Colby did enjoy it. He liked the way he and Vince took care of each other. The way they were always looking out for each other and working together. “It’s torture,” Colby lied, and Vince gave him a knowing laugh. “Everything okay with your family?”

“Yeah, all good. We check in every once in a while, is all.”

“Do you see each other much?” he asked, not sure if he should have. Maybe it wasn’t his place.

“I fly out to see them every few years. I was raised in California but moved to Atlanta for college. That’s how I ended up there. My aunt just mentioned we should try to see each other soon, though.” He looked at Colby. “You wanna go? We can get some more traveling under your belt. Maybe after the wedding and before apple season is too busy? Not sure if we can squeeze it in then, but if not, maybe after the apples?”

He was struck stupid for a moment, not having expected the invitation. “I can’t go to California to see your family with you?” He wasn’t sure why that had come out as a question.

“Why not? I go to family dinners and stuff like that with your family all the time.”

Which was true, but it felt different. Wouldn’t that seem couple-y? Wouldn’t that make Vince’s aunt and uncle think they were together? But then, if Vince didn’t care what it looked like, why should he? Vince and Colby would tell them the truth, and he doubted Vince’s family would harass him about being in a relationship the way Colby’s would. “Sure.” He shrugged.

“It’s a date.” Vince winked.

They chatted until dinner was done and then sat outside and ate together. Colby liked being outdoors, and Vince did too.

Eventually, they went inside. Colby was at the sink, washing off their dinner plates, when Vince crowded in behind him, his arms around Colby’s waist, and began kissing his neck. “So…we still haven’t picked up where we left off earlier.” He nibbled the skin at the meaty part of Colby’s neck, where it met his shoulder.

He dropped his head to the side to give Vince better access. “Mmm. I’ve been looking forward to it,” Colby admitted, but… “I knew I didn’t have to rush. We’d get there, and I like talking to you too.” Hooking up with Vince…those were always some of the hottest experiences of his life, but damned if he didn’t enjoy just being with him equally as much.

Vince’s palm splayed against Colby’s stomach, pushing his shirt up so he could touch bare skin. “So fucking sweet.” Vince nibbled on him again, then kissed him. “I like talking to you too. Probably more than you know.”

Colby wondered what that meant, what made him say it, but then Vince was spinning him around so Colby’s ass was against the counter. Their mouths pulled together, Vince’s tongue immediately delving inside to taste him. Strong arms wrapped around him, and he heard Vince turn the water off while they kissed and rutted together.

Heat pooled in Colby’s groin, blood rushing to his cock, making it swell and harden. He grabbed Vince’s ass, kneaded the muscular cheeks, and…wondered what it would be like to sink between them, to push his cock into Vince’s body, to fuck him and have him that way. It sent another jolt to his groin, making his dick twitch beneath his shorts.
