“Nosy fuck. I hope you boys don’t have anything hazardous laying around this bitch, cause promise to fuck my lil princess will find a way to blow some shit up.” He seemed genuinely worried about that which made the rest of us crack the hell up.

“This fucker tell you where he’s taking us?” he eyed Mancini who had that smirk on his face as he stood back with his men.

“Nope, but we figure there’s enough of us to take him if he tries anything.” Lo joked in answer to Lyon’s question.

“Asshole seems slippery to me.” We talked shit for a little while because we all knew that the situation had to be seriously fucked if the men in that circle were willing to uproot their lives even if for a little while.

But soon it was time to broach the subject of why we were really here. “You boys ready to get out of here?” Mancini finally broke his silence and it brought our attention to the two men and one woman he had with him.

“We have one more run to make before we leave.” Lo explained about the tunnel and the three newcomers reacted. Mancini said something in some kind of fucked up language and they settled down.

“My people have seen the worse of what that shit can lead to, you’ll have to forgive them.” They looked pissed as fuck, especially the woman who started looking around as if she expected to see some shit going down right then and there.

“Well, let’s get to it. I have it on good authority that the heat is on. I’ll leave my people here with the women and children. I know I know your place is secure, but we’ll all feel a lot better if they weren’t left alone.”

We each sized up his crew. It was one thing to go out on a limb and trust the man himself, but now he was asking us to leave our most precious possessions in the hands of strangers. This is why we’d made that pact so long ago, my brothers and I. Never to settle down with some woman, put her through the heartache of having to wait for us while we went off to who knows what.

“They’re fine, his uncle already vouched for him, so if they’re with him, unless he’s a dumb fuck, then they should be clear too.”

“Thank you Lyon, always so eloquent.”

“Fuck off spook boy, we leaving or not?” No sooner had the words left his mouth than Lo’s phone went off again. He walked away to answer and came back after a few minutes.

“That was our guy on the inside, something’s going down. Quinn what the fuck?” He was sniffing the air and swear to fuck he went into battle mode. A quick look around didn’t reveal any immediate danger, but the six of us knew that something was up. It had been a while since he’d had an episode, but we knew enough not to ignore that shit.

“We have to go NOW.”

“Hold up brother, we have to secure the women before we head out.” I wasn’t about to leave Susie without making sure that the place was safe. If something was going on at the base chances are we were in the middle of it, and since she was the last one they’d gone after I wasn’t taking any chances.

I headed for Zak’s while the rest of them followed and Quinn and Dev went to put the place on lockdown. I didn’t like that Quinn’s little anomaly chose now to rear it’s head, and with that last phone call I was even more on edge. If I’d had any doubts about leaving before, this shit sealed it for me.

“Susana.” She was in the midst of the women getting reacquainted when I walked in. At my use of her name her face lost some of its joviality as she stood to come to me. Lo and Con weren’t too far behind and their women were soon being cornered along with Nessa and Vicki.

“Cord what is it, what’s wrong?” Stark fear was in her eyes. “Is it mom?”

“No-no, shh, listen to me, I don’t want you to worry. I have to go take care of something, stay here, do not leave the others no matter what do you understand me?” She nodded her head as I pulled her into my chest.

“Where are you going?” She held on when I tried to leave.

“I won’t be far and I won’t be long. Now go be my brave girl and look after your sisters.” I dried the tears that escaped from her eyes. “I love you more than anything, nothing is going to keep me from coming back to you, not ever.”

“I’m holding you to that.” I wish there was more time but the others were already heading back out so I kissed her forehead and left her to go out into the night once more.
