Losing my parents hurt for a long time, then add to raising my brother and sister, dating became something I have forgotten about and now dreaded.
My walk leads me down the beach in the cool night air. The gentle breeze drags my attention to the ocean waves. I stop to take in the scene before me; the stars shine in the cloudless sky, giving the sea it’s own spotlight. I see why people want to live here in this paradise, but I’ll happily take the city streets of Chicago.
Reminding myself that I’m on a timed mission, I continue walking to the bar.
I pass by a bunch of college assholes who are falling over each other drunk. Then I hit the patio to the tiki bar. Now to deal with this greedy bitch before she sinks her teeth into my little brother.
The rundown bar has seen better days, but that’s not my concern. I open the flimsy screen door and stop in my tracks. The sexiest woman in the world is bending over wiping down a table. When she looks up at me, I’m floored. She’s even hotter from this angle, and my dick pays close attention. I can see her tits from this position, and it pisses me off. She’s showing off what belongs to me. Me? Damn it. Please tell me she’s not the only woman that works here.
Chapter Two
Aviana
I pick up after the last customers leave, setting their glasses on the bar. I sit my ass on a chair of that table and toss my feet up on the table of this mediocre tiki bar set up. My body and mind are bone tired. Most of the customers are tourists, the spring breakers, or the summer beach bums. They can be rowdy, annoying, and sometimes overly flirtatious.
The last guy that came in here was a real piece of work. He’s here for a wedding, and all he could talk about was how I belonged as his date. The last straw was when he brought up how rich he and his family was. “My brother’s really loaded.”
I finally got him out of here with a “Hell no, and I’ll call the cops” threat.
I look around at the stained walls and beat up stools and wonder what I’m going to do when Maurice sells this place. The bar needs a serious remodel, but Maurice is ready to retire and put it up for sale, so he’s not concerned with a facelift. “The new owners can do that,” he explained every time I asked.
This is my second job just to keep my shitty apartment away from the beach. I should be looking for another job soon. “I can’t believe I still work here,” I grumble to myself.
“That’s because your parents left you high and dry here,” Maurice says, slapping my legs with a towel. “Get your feet off of there and clean up so you can go home already.”
“We’re still open for another hour,” I remind him.
“Yeah, but do you see anyone around here.” He walks into the back with a smile on his face. He’s been wonderful to me, and I know he feels bad about me possibly losing my job if the new owners don’t keep the staff, but he’s getting a little too old to deal with the pressure of owning a bar.
“Fine.” I don’t bother to move for the next ten minutes, letting the music coming from the bar down the beach seep into my soul. My music and books are the only things that bring me joy on this island. I live in one of the most lavish places in the world, and I don’t enjoy it. I stand up and get a fresh cleaning rag and start wiping down the tables. I’m in the middle of the third table when a hear the sound of the spring door followed by footsteps.
As I look up, I’m shocked. Standing in the doorway is a tall, well-built man in a pair of black dress pants and a white dress shirt with his sleeves rolled up, revealing his strong forearms. He’s not one of the college kids around here. No—there’s something much more mature about him. His vibrantly light eyes scan the room, and they land on me. They don’t just land, they roam over my body, lingering on my cleavage that’s ten times more revealing in my bent-over position. A blush spreads over my face as feel my pussy clench just from his gaze.
As our eyes meet from across the room, a growl emanates from him. For his size, he’s light on his feet, and he reaches me before I can set the towel down. “What’s your name?” he asks. I stare at him, mentally tracing the scruff on his face. His jaw tightens when I don’t immediately answer. I’m so entranced by his light greenish-gray eyes. “Well?”
