“That’s right. But how did we get on the car again? Come here.” She rushed me, and I picked her up and spun her around, making her squeal. Her eyes were no longer sad when I looked down at her in the moonlight but brightly shining with laughter. It was right in the middle of that adorable laugh that I kissed her. Crisis averted.

“Lisa.” It took three tries to extricate my lips from hers.

“Why do you always stop my kisses?”

“What do you mean?”

“You know what I mean. Whenever I kiss you like that, it feels like you’re pulling away.” She pouted up at me.

“Babe, are you serious?”

“Oh yes, I am. Why do you do that?”

“Why do you think?” Because if I get as carried away as you do, I’ll end up taking you against the damn wall out here.

She shrugged her shoulders and looked at me as if she had no idea where I was coming from.

“You’re studying medicine, right, so you pretty much know about the human body.”

“Yes, and? What does that have to do with my kisses?” Oh, geez, baby. Don’t make my heart any softer than it already is.

“So, you should understand what you do to me when you kiss me like that.”

“I don’t get it.” My baby!

“Lisa, are you pulling my leg?”

“No, what am I doing to you?”

“That’s hilarious. Tell me you’re kidding.”

“I’m not!” What do the haters know? If I don’t marry this girl, it would be the greatest regret of my life.

“And that right there is why I do it because you’re so damn innocent, and your innocence should be cherished. I cherish it, and I’ll only take it when the time is right.”

“OK, but what does that have to do with my kisses?” I couldn’t help it. I pulled her back into my arms again for a hug.

“Baby, kisses like that can lead to other things.”

“Like what? It’s not like I’m feeling you up or something; it’s just a kiss.”

Just a kiss my ass, wait a minute. “Are you telling me you don’t feel anything when we kiss?”

“Of course, I do; that’s why I like it.”

“What do you feel?” She actually gave it some thought. With her arms still around my neck and mine wrapped loosely around her ass, she looked off in the distance as she thought of what to say.

“It starts off with a flutter here.” She pointed to her stomach.

“Then it feels warm here.” She moved her hand to her heart. “Then my head feels light, and it’s hard to breathe but not like I’m dying or anything, more like being underwater without the fear of drowning. Then, I don’t know; my body just does this weird thing where it feels like I’m flying, and I get a pulsing sensation…. there” she pointed between her thighs as her face went up in flames, “it’s like another heartbeat, and it feels really good.”

“I know it’s arousal…. Ahhhh. You feel that too?” I just nodded my head and looked down at her in wonder. The look of awe on her face made me want to laugh and cry at the same time. Did she think that I wasn’t as affected by her as she is by me?

“Baby, do you get it now?” She nodded and rested her head against my chest, smoothing her hand over my chest like that was going to help put out the fire she’d started. For the first time, I realized how turned on I am by her innocence; I didn’t even know that was a thing. But her sweet unassumed innocence makes me want to do very dirty things to her.

For now, I lifted her chin with my finger and closed my lips over hers, making sure I was the one in charge this time, a lotta help that was. At least my little live wire didn’t have sad eyes any longer. As long as she was happy, I’d endure all the cold showers it takes to get my body back under my control once she’s done with me. But now that she knows how much she makes me suffer, I’m hoping she’d take it easy on me.

LISA

It took one look as soon as we walked into the venue to know that mom had upgraded just about everything I’d ordered, even down to the centerpieces. I’d gone with something simple, just a blend of colorful roses with sprigs of baby’s breath. I recognized the arrangement she’d changed them out for, and they were at least three times the cost of mine.

I’m not cheap by any means; I just don’t see the sense in paying that much for something that you’re only going to use for a couple of hours, though the Juliet roses were stunning. The menu had been added onto those canapes dad had mentioned along with a fish entrée which I’d overlooked because what college student eats Chilean bass? Whatever! The room looked wonderful, and it’s not like I hadn’t expected it, so I just smiled as the hotel liaison filled me in on all the last-minute things mom had taken care of.
