I laugh. “I’ve heard.”

Eve winks at me.

“No, but seriously,” Gabby goes on, “there is just no need for them to treat you the way they have. It’s ridiculous. Don’t let people like that bring you down, honey. We need a little trick to play on them, to show them you’re not one to back down.”

“I couldn’t come up with a trick if I tried,” I say, “I just don’t have it in me.”

“That’s what you’ve got us for.” Poppy grins. “We’ll fix this issue, tell us everything you know about the event, who is going to be there, and what you have access to.”

I go over everything with them, including the fact that the nannies are responsible for going in and baking a bunch of treats for the ladies having a luncheon. Apparently, they do it every year and it makes them feel “important”. I’d rather gouge my own eye out with a rusty fork, but Delilah has begged me to go so she can prove to everyone that we’re solid.

Whatever.

“Oh, that is perfect.” Eve claps. “I can tell you every baking trick under the sun to make sure everything that comes out of that kitchen is pure crap.”

“You just have to make sure you’re not involved in the cooking, so they look like idiots when they serve their masters the wrong food.” Ramona grins.

Oh boy.

“And how exactly will I do that?” I ask.

“Simple, you tell Delilah you don’t want kitchen duties, because you don’t feel she’s respecting you. If she’s into Hugh, she will give you something else to do,” Gabby grins. “Someone has to watch those babies while those nannies cook, you do it.”

“How will I screw up their cooking if I am watching the babies?” I ask.

“You go in a bit earlier,” Eve points out. “You swap everything out and just let them carry on with their day. It’ll be perfect.”

I mean, it’s a pretty good idea. To be embarrassed in front of everyone the same way I was, but still, I don’t know if I have it in me to be that kind of person. I’m just not evil.

“I don’t know if I can do it,” I say. “I’ll feel so bad.”

“Why?” Eve demands, crossing her arms. “They had no problem making you feel like an absolute idiot. They all deserve it.”

I bite my lip.

“Honey, you’re doing it,” Gabby says. “Nobody messes with my girl and gets away with it.”

“I’ll consider it,” I say.

“What are you goin’ to consider?” Hugh asks, walking into the room at the clubhouse where we’re all sitting while they have their weekly meeting.

“Nothing,” I say, shrugging.

“How’s Star?” he asks.

“She’s fine, still asleep.”

He nods, and glances at the girls. “You lot look like you’re up to no good.”

“Us?” Eve asks, pressing a hand to her chest. “Never.”

The guys all walk into the room, and Hank is busy shaking all their hands like he’s made the deal of a lifetime.

“What’s going on here?” Poppy asks, rubbing her belly as she uncomfortably gets up. “Why does Hank look like he’s leaving us?”

“Because he is,” Riggs tells her. “Hank is goin’ nomad for a while. He needs a break and we’re givin’ it to him. He’s goin’ to ride alone.”

I stare, confused as all hell. I know nothing about the biker life, but I do know that Hank going out on his own must be a pretty big deal because these guys really do tend to stick together.

“What?” Eve says, frowning. “Why are you going out alone, Hank? We love you here.”

Hank shrugs. “Just need a break. Been a long time comin’. I’ll be back, eventually.”

“Oh, that sucks.” Gabby frowns. “You were kind of growing on me.”

Hank grins.

“Anyway, we got business to take care of. You ladies good here?”

Eve huffs. “Of course, we’re going to my café to have some coffee. We’ll be there when you’re done.”

Riggs leans down and kisses her.

So bloody cute.

That’s the kind of love I want.

The kind I need.

The kind I crave.

Maybe one day I’ll get it.

“Did you hear about what Rhett is doing?” Gabby asks me, a few days later when she comes around for a coffee.

“No, what?”

“He’s opening some big camp out there at the ranch. You know how he has that big lake and all those horses and cows and that huge house, he wants to do something to give back and his dad left him a shit load of money when he died including that ranch so he’s going to build a bunch of cabins and all this other fancy shit and open it up to camps for people who need a break. It can be anyone who needs it, groups of people can book at once.”

“Oh wow,” I say, shocked. “That is incredible.”

“It’ll take a while to get up and running, but it’s pretty amazing. It’ll draw people from far and wide. He’s planning a lot of events that they can do while there.”
