Kai nuzzled his neck and Breck all but purred, their bodies still damp with sweat, their chests still sticky with lube. Not that Breck cared. In this moment, he was happy. And absolutely right where he wanted to be.
The current song drew to a close. As if having decided to wrap things up when it concluded, Kai moved himself off Breck’s body, then extended his hand. Breck accepted it and Kai helped him sit up. “Feeling better now?” he asked with a grin. “Back in your body? Nice and grounded to Earth?”
Breck rolled his shoulders. Smiled. “Yeah... God, that was amazing.”
“Glad you liked it. Not too shabby for pretend.”
Breck’s smile ebbed. Pretend.
He no longer liked that word.
Kai rose to his feet, then pulled Breck up. “Lemme grab us some waters.”
He headed for the kitchen. Breck pulled on his shorts. Then turned and regarded Kai as he opened the fridge. Had he seriously just been playing a role? This whole fucking time? Had it all been an act?
Not that Breck could get pissed either way. He’d specifically asked Kai to pretend. Had used that exact terminology when making his request. But, Jesus, he hadn’t meant it so literally. It’d just been the instrument to drive things forward. A simple, stupid, arbitrary word to get Kai touching him again.
Meaning… Yeah, Breck most definitely hadn’t been acting. Had seen the chemistry between them as real. And now a very demanding part of him wanted to know the truth. If Kai, despite his words, had seen it that way, too.
Resolving to find out, he squared his shoulders and joined Kai where he was pouring two glasses of water. Kai turned to Breck and handed his over, then leaned against the counter and roamed his dark eyes down Breck’s chest. A smoldering light glinted in his gaze. “Rope marks look good on you,” he murmured.
Breck smiled, resisting the urge to glance down at his body. Instead, he focused on downing his drink. His swallows turned into gulps—damn, he’d been thirstier than he thought—until every single droplet made it down his throat. Setting his glass aside, he stepped closer, essentially trapping Kai against that counter. Much like Kai had done to him not so long ago over at Scott’s.
The night Kai had dommed for Sean in Max’s infamous dungeon.
Breck’s stomach clenched uncomfortably at the memory. He pushed it away and met Kai square in the eye. “So, what I just did… What I let you do… That’s sorta what it’s like… to be a sub?”
Kai’s lips curved. “To a lesser degree, but yes.”
“So, in following along with our pretending that I’m your sub… Would I technically remain your sub for the rest of the night, even though we’ve finished?”
Kai smirked. “That’d depend on our make-believe dynamic. Some Dom/sub relationships are twenty-four-seven.”
Whoa, what? Breck blinked in surprise.
Kai grinned.
Ugh. Breck forced himself to focus. “Okay, whatever. We’d clearly never be twenty-four-seven… So in that case, does that technically mean I’m done being your sub?”
Kai regarded him curiously, then shrugged. “Sure. If you’d like, we can go with that scenario.”
Boom. Precisely the answer he’d been fishing for.
Breck moved in closer and sank his hands into Kai’s silky hair. “Good,” he mumbled, eyeing Kai’s mouth. “Wasn’t in the mood to have to ask for permission.” Going for it, he fused their lips.
Kai stilled, then gripped Breck’s wrists as if readying to stop him.
No. Don’t. Breck deepened the kiss. He didn’t want Kai to pull away.
And what do you know, his efforts paid off. Kai loosened his grip, his body easing. Relaxing, softening, as Breck pressed against his frame. Every inch of Breck thrummed in pleasure. He’d wanted to do this for so damn long. Since the night he’d crushed his lips to Kai’s after nearly attacking him. A memory that, in truth, still had him cringing. He couldn’t believe he’d treated him that way.
The music crooned on as they kissed, their lips moving unhurriedly, their tongues in a sultry dance. Heaven. Kai’s mouth was heaven. A soft moan stirred at the back of Breck’s throat. He could do this shit forever, pressed against Kai’s body in the candlelight.
All too soon, though, Kai severed their kiss, using his grip on Breck’s wrists to ease him away.
Breck stared at him, half dazed, the flickering light on Kai’s face a spell. Luring him back. Drawing him in. He needed more. He hadn’t been finished. He went for Kai’s lips again, but Kai stopped him, his expression torn.
“I don’t think it’s wise to get carried away.” He sounded as drunk as Breck currently felt.
Breck scowled. “Like what we just did wasn’t getting carried away?”
Kai smiled a little. “Yes, but that was—”
“Pretend,” Breck bit out. “Yes. I know. You keep fucking reminding me.” Sighing, he dropped his hands. But then his troubled mind shifted gears. Peering into Kai’s eyes, he asked point blank, “The rope tie you did on me… You’re going to do that on another guy?”
