“Bullshit.” I moved so fast that I didn’t even realize I was there. Her back pressed to the counter and my hand in her hair. My fingers kneaded into the base of her skull.

“Bullshit.” I whispered it that time, so quiet, but it still boomed between us.

Bullshit to all of it.

“I might not know all the details about you, Savannah, but there’s something about you that I recognize here.” I gathered up her hand and pressed her palm flat to the ravaging at my chest. “Something I feel. Something I know. And the problem is, I care too fucking much.”

Her chin quivered as she stared up at me, and my hand slipped down to grasp her by the back of the neck. Her lips parted and the air trembled around us.

Her tongue stroked across those plump, tempting lips, and my gaze dipped to capture the action before it flicked back up to dive into the endless sea of those aqua eyes.

“Tell me not to kiss you.” The words were a gnarl of desperation. The last thread of my restraint.

Her fingers curled into my shirt. Energy thrashed in the inch of space that separated us.

A second.

An eternity.

Before she whispered, “I don’t want to.”

And that thread snapped.

TWENTY-THREE

SAVANNAH

The hand at the back of my neck tightened as Ezra swooped down and took my mouth like it’d been his all along.

His to possess.

His to command.

Fire zinged down my spine as his lips moved over mine.

Greedily.

Eagerly.

But somehow, the kiss was still soft and sure, and those flames leapt higher when he drew my top lip between both of his, nibbling, tasting, before he stroked his tongue across the bottom.

A needy moan parted my mouth, and my hand fisted tighter in his shirt in a clear invitation.

He took it, and he swept his tongue against mine, deepening the kiss. I could feel the man diving into me.

Feeling me.

Exploring me.

Stroke after decadent stroke, as if he would give anything to seep inside. Know me, inside and out.

One hand cupped my jaw, and the other fisted in my hair as he controlled the kiss.

He tasted of the fresh fruit we’d had for dessert.

Strawberries.

Oranges.

Citrus and pine.

A deep sea breeze. The woods. All man.

Everything I never knew I wanted. Everything I’d craved but hadn’t understood what it meant.

On a groan, he pushed in closer, and he pinned me to the counter, his massive body hot and hard against mine.

“Savannah,” he rasped through a breath. He took my face in both hands, and he angled back to look into my eyes. It was only a fraction of a second, but in it, time slowed.

Stilled as our spirits cried with possibility. With hope. Like he could see all the way down inside me to every wound that had ever been inflicted.

The next pass of his tongue was a claim.

Dominant.

Desire tumbled, and it spread through every cell and ignited a pool of need deep in the pit of my stomach.

It throbbed, and my thighs trembled as I ached for more of his touch.

“Ezra.” I whimpered it at his mouth, the sound lost to the force of the kiss.

Consumed in it.

But I knew that Ezra still felt the urgency that sped through my body. The man was in tune with me the way I didn’t think anyone else had ever been. One hand slipped down the column of my neck, making me shake as he ran it down my chest.

He palmed my breast, and the pad of his thumb flicked over the pebbled, sensitive nub of my nipple, before he continued his exploration, and his hand slid all the way around to my bottom.

He yanked me against his hard body.

Every line of him was rigid. Bulging. Brimming with strength and barely held desperation.

His cock pressed against the ache in my belly, making it glow, and my head felt dizzy with the onslaught of lust, just as my knees felt weak with the onslaught of emotion.

This sense that maybe…maybe…

Ezra held me up as he kissed me deeper. With a madness that squandered all thought.

All reason.

Because right then it was just us.

“Little Trespasser, what are you doing to me?” He pulled back an inch as he rasped it.

His mouth parted.

Our lips barely brushing as we panted.

Our bodies swaying in need.

Urging and begging.

His eyes were molten honey as he stared down. Watching me, he took me by the outside of my thigh and hooked my leg over his hip, and he rubbed himself over my drenched core.

Sparks flew, and my fingers sank into his shoulders.

“Exactly what you’re doing to me,” I whimpered.

“If you could only imagine all the things I want to do to you. How I would take you. The way I would mark myself so deep inside you that you could never erase me.” His words were grit.

I had to be delirious. Fevered as I struggled to reach between us to get to the button of his fly.
