He loved the sound of his name on her lips.
Alora tried to pull out of his arms, but he wouldn’t let her go. He didn’t want to. This was a fight he had to win.
“Take away the fact I’m your boss, Alora. You’re attracted to me. You want me.”
“But you’re still my boss. This cannot happen, like ever.”
Adam took a deep breath. He needed to think.
“Alora, I fucked you last night without a condom,” he said.
She jerked out of his arms, and this time, he let her go. Alora spun around, the water splashing, and glared at him. “Damn it, what is this?”
“I’m attracted to you. I’m not holding your job over you. I don’t give a shit about the fact I’m your boss. I want to keep on seeing you.”
She nibbled on her lip and sank beneath the water.
That was a small victory, right?
He wasn’t sure anymore what would be a victory and what wouldn’t be.
Alora’s gaze roamed all around the bathroom before settling on him. “I had dreams about my love life since I was a kid, and last night wasn’t even close. I don’t want to be that woman.”
“You’re not. Your talents speak for themselves.”
“I don’t think this is a good idea.”
He moved in close, trapping her between his body and the edge of the tub. “Sometimes the best things come out of good ideas.”
Those lips of hers were too irresistible to deny himself. He took possession of them. At first, Alora was unyielding, determined to keep him at arm’s length, but slowly, she melted against him. The hand on his chest didn’t push him away any longer.
Her touch ignited his own need. His dick hardened, and he wanted to take her again. To fill her with his cum so he’d have another chance of getting her pregnant.
Adam jerked back, staring into her eyes, a little startled.
When he was younger, he’d wanted a family. Dreamed of one. Year by year, that dream had shattered until he finally realized he wanted nothing and no one. He’d learned the hard way that no one was to be trusted, and that was how he lived his life. Alone.
Alora understood that feeling.
He hadn’t thought of a family since he was a kid. There had been no yearning for a child, or love.
What had she done to him?
“What’s the matter?” Alora asked.
He was saved by his doorbell.
“Stay here,” he said.
“Like I would go anywhere. I don’t want anyone to see me.”
He wasn’t going to point out that the whole office saw her leave with him. She’d panic and he’d be back to square one.
Adam grabbed a robe before heading toward his front door. The sterile white walls mocked him as he moved. This wasn’t a family place, but a bachelor pad.
Opening the door, he saw his PA waiting with the breakfast and change of clothes. He had two PAs. One who dealt with all work-related stuff, and the second who handled all of his personal and private life.
Seeing Daniel was a relief. To win Alora, Adam was going to have to work hard.
Chapter Four
The Christmas music piped into the sound system of the entire building no longer soothed her. Those happy, festive tunes seemed to mock her, reminding her what a little slut she’d been last week. It was hard to concentrate on work. Hard to make eye contact with her coworkers. And next to impossible to avoid Adam.
Every time she spotted him, she escaped to the bathroom or another floor for supplies. She couldn’t deal with her mistake or face her boss. Maybe she’d be able to avoid him forever. She sighed as she leafed through her sample book, unable to focus or get into the creative zone.
Damn it, Christmas was always her favorite time of year. It made her happy, which wasn’t always an easy task. Now, even the holidays soured her mood.
Someone came up behind her, and she let out a little squeal. She’d been so lost in thought that she hadn’t even heard him. “Registered letter. Please sign here.”
Alora spun around in the chair and signed the clipboard before taking the letter. She turned to face her desk and opened the letter. It was from … Adam Nelson? Really?
He was holding her to her verbal contract to make a painting for his condo. She growled and crumpled the letter in her fist. Alora stood up, feeling emboldened. He wasn’t going to get away with this. She rushed to the elevators and hit the penthouse suite. It seemed Adam had to have the best at work and at home.
Once she was on the top floor, she marched right over to the reception desk. Even his secretary was a freaking model. “I’d like to see Mr. Nelson, please.”
“Can I ask your name?”
“Just tell him it’s Alora.”
Only seconds later, she was being escorted to his office. The secretary opened the door and closed it immediately behind her.
