She turned to me, surprise in her beautiful eyes. “Really?”

“Yeah.” I would bend over backward to fuck this girl—and I hoped she’d be worth it.

“You can still do what you were doing before in the meantime…it’s not like I’m asking you to give that up while you wait.”

“I assumed.” Not that I would continue anyway. When I fucked a woman, I only thought of her until the moment was over. Then I forgot about her and moved on to the next. But with Monroe, she was the only woman on my mind at the moment, the only conquest I wanted to make.

“We can go back to your original offer. Now that we’re doing this, it doesn’t seem fair—”

“I stand by my offer. So how does this work? We spend time together, and then you tell me when you’re ready?”

“Yeah…I guess.”

“I’m not trying to be an ass, but this better not take longer than a month.”

“I guess we’ll see…”

Monroe

I wasn’t playing games.

When I met him at the hotel, I really thought I would go through with it.

But it still didn’t feel right. I felt trapped, like I was doing it for the wrong reasons. It felt like a regret even though I hadn’t even gone through with it yet. The man paying me for my virginity was practically a stranger. I knew hardly anything about him besides his first and last name.

That didn’t feel right either.

When I told my boyfriend or lover about my first time, I wanted to say positive things about the guy. At least I could say he was my friend and someone I respected and admired. Maybe we weren’t in love, but we trusted each other. That was much better than screwing a stranger for money.

It would help me sleep at night.

I was sitting at my desk working on an ad for an editorial when my assistant knocked on my office door. “Uh, Monroe. There’s a man here to see you…and I’m pretty sure it’s Slate Remington. I mean, it looks just like him. He’s wearing a suit and everything.” Wide-eyed and with stars in her gaze, she seemed smitten by what she saw. “Do you know him?”

“Actually, I do know him. But I can’t imagine why he would stop by my office like this.”

“Wants to know if you’re free for lunch.”

“Really?” After I’d turned him down, I figured he wouldn’t want to see me for a week. It’d only been a few days since that night at the hotel, but maybe he wanted to make progress sooner rather than later—so he could fuck me. I didn’t understand his obsession with getting me into bed. The only person who should be obsessed with it is me—because he was the gorgeous one. If I weren’t a virgin, I would probably pay him to sleep with me.

“Yeah. He’s standing by my desk.”

“Tell him I’ll be right there.” I finished what I was working on and then put my computer to sleep before I grabbed my coat and walked to my assistant’s desk outside in the main lobby. Since I worked in fashion, we were more laid-back around the office, wearing cute outfits rather than pantsuits and jackets. Today I wore a red dress with a jean jacket and flats. My hair was curled and pulled back into a ponytail. When I rounded the corner and saw him, perfectly filling out his suit with a face so handsome he should be a model for the company, I suddenly felt ugly in what I was wearing.

I walked up to him, feeling the muscles tighten in my chest when I remembered how his come tasted in my mouth. I’d only caught a little bit of it because most of it went straight into my throat, but it was potent enough to leave a lingering effect. When I stopped in front of him, I felt my stomach drop into the bottom part of my body, a weight of nervousness hitting me. I forced a smile. “Where did you have in mind?”

“Ladies’ choice.” He walked with me out of the office, keeping space between us like we were colleagues. We took the elevator down to the bottom floor and then walked out onto the sidewalk, joining the thousands of other people on the hunt for lunch.

“Well, I could eat anything. I’m not picky. You’re the one who won’t eat carbs, so you tell me.”

He chuckled slightly. “There’s this little café I like. It’s right over here. They’ve got great salads.”

I stuck out my tongue. “I’m not eating a salad for lunch.” I was starving most of the time, so I wanted real food.

“They have sandwiches and pasta too.”

“Oh…then I’m in.”

We walked inside, ordered our food, and then took a seat. Slate paid for me without giving me the opportunity to even grab my wallet.

The first few times he’d paid, it didn’t seem like a big deal. But if we were going to be spending more time together, it didn’t seem right to let him pay all the time. Even if I overdrafted my account, it was better than mooching off of him. “I get the next one, alright?”
