The dominance continued as Dev reached for his hand then tugged him off the bike. Once Cash lifted off, Dev linked their fingers together as he followed after Dev to the edge of the property.

“Is it safe here?”

“It is for me,” Dev said. “Don’t be a pussy. It’s a clutch vantage point to see the city.”

Cash lost his train of thought as he stood at the highest point of the property, looking down over the colorful lights of the highways mixmaster interchange below. The traffic zoomed up and down the streets and bridges. The white and red of headlamps and taillights mixed with the blue overhead highway lights. In the distance, the Omni Hotel and Reunion Tower ball sparkled brightly in the sky. Behind those, many other buildings, in all different bright colors, added to the gorgeous skyline.

“Dallas is beautiful,” Cash said, taking it all in.

“Like this it is. It makes you forget people like me are crawlin’ all around the city.”

Cash glanced over at Dev. Saying something like that was probably the only thing that could have pulled him from the view. He slid an arm around Dev’s waist, turning them until he drew Dev’s back against his chest. He added his other arm too, tightening his hold to keep Dev there against him. He went back to watching all the moving and mesmerizing parts of the scenes playing out in front of him.

When Dev’s body relaxed into his, Cash received the true gift. The warmth and feel of Dev cuddling back against him reminded him of their nights together before he’d ruined it all.

Dev placed his hand over Cash’s, holding them close together.

“I wish you had come back earlier,” Dev murmured. “Like ten years ago. Maybe I wouldn’t’ve had the problems I have today had you come back.”

“You wouldn’t have noticed me back then,” Cash said, placing a kiss against Dev’s ear.

“I’d’ve noticed.” Dev glanced over his shoulder, looking as if Cash were crazy. It was a sweet gesture. Cash lifted their joined hands to Dev’s face as he started to turn away, drawing his face back. Cash met Dev’s lips with a sweet lingering kiss.

Dev stared into his eyes. He wished he knew what was happening inside the biker’s head. Instinctually, he locked his arms tighter around Dev’s body, keeping him close.

“I might’ve been on a course of destruction, but I wasn’t a fool. I’d’ve seen you. My girls like you, and they’re my girls. I feel it here.” Dev’s free hand landed on his own chest, covering his heart. “I wish I had ten more just like ’em. It hurts me that I can’t. When I started tryin’ to pull my shit together, I had this dream of ownin’ land, like a lot of it. I put a shadowy figure in as my partner. I couldn’t figure that part out. We’d have lots of kids. I liked the family picture inside my head. I’ve always wanted lots of kids.”

Cash nodded, still close to Dev’s face, listening to what felt very much like a dream. When Dev spoke of his family, of the beautiful love and devotion he had for his children, Cash could see how such a family could complete this man. It didn’t seem too much to ask.

Maybe someday, Cash may have a place of priority in Dev’s life. What a gift that might be. “I like your children too. You’ve done a good job raising them. Mae’s obvious in her devotion to you, but I watched Abi watch you then try to ignore you when you pay attention to her. She mimics you.”

“You caught that?” Dev asked with a chuckle. “She got that ‘not givin’ a shit’ from me. She throws it back to me pretty well.”

“Maybe because she knows you’re solid for her.” A brilliant lightbulb moment presented itself and he had to grin. “She knows what makes you pay attention. I should take notes.”

Dev turned in his arms, coming chest to chest with Cash. He was lost to the handsome, upturned face. Cash murmured, “You have me on a short leash. That’s not safe for any of us. For me to be so focused on us.”

Cash touched Dev’s cheek, gently stroking until his fingers tangled in the strands of his hair.

“I got you,” Dev murmured. leaning into the caress of his hand. “I control more than I let on. Nobody’s gonna lay a finger on you unless it’s me. I guarantee.”

“And how’s that looking?” Cash smiled at Dev’s words. “You laying a finger on me?”

“You got a hundred percent chance of that.” Dev grinned. “Take me home? Sleep in my bed?” Dev gave him that sly grin that made his knees weak and started to pull away.

“Or you in mine.” Cash’s bedroom didn’t have the cameras watching every move they made.

Dev pulled from his arms. Cash trailed close behind Dev, heading back to the bike as Dev spoke the sweet words. “Wherever we both are is where I wanna be.”
