His grin made me want to smack him.

Jesus the man was incorrigible.

His hands worked nimbly as he pulled the condom off his cock and disposed of it in a large trashcan across the room.

I sat up and hopped down, turning to survey the damage.

The car’s hood was covered with sweat and…other things. Things that needed to be wiped off.

Spying the buffing rag in the corner, I walked over to it and started to wipe off the hood, working the streak marks out of it with quick efficient movements.

“I think I was wrong,” Luke drawled from behind me.

I blinked. “Wrong about what?”

He tilted his head forward. “That’s my new fantasy. Seeing you wash my car in the nude. Soap bubbles all over your breasts and legs.”

I shook my head.

“You’re nuts,” I teased.

He nodded solemnly. “Probably. But it’d be a fun way to fuck.”

I laughed.

“Fucking nuts,” I confirmed with a nod of my head.

He chuckled and tucked his cock, which I noticed hadn’t descended from its original erect, back into his pants and zipped back up.

Then he walked forward, grabbed my hand and pulled me to follow him through the garage and into the door that led into his house.

I didn’t expect the cleanliness when I walked into his kitchen.

I guess I thought, for some reason, that a single parent would be messy. However, the kitchen was pristine.

“Your kitchen is really clean,” I noted.

He grimaced. “Years of ingrained responsibility courtesy of the United States Marines.”

His grin was contagious, and I walked towards him, wrapping my arms around his torso.

My head rested on his chest, noting that he still not only wore his badge around his neck, but a pair of dog tags as well.

“You gonna treat me right?” I asked.

He lifted my chin, making me stare into his eyes as he asked, “The question is, are you going to treat me right?”

I nodded as best as I could with his hands cupping either side of my face.

“I’ll try not to be a raging bitch during my time of the month,” I confirmed.

He shook his head, a smile playing at the corner of his lips. “And I’ll try not to ignore you while I’m at work.”

I pinched his sides, causing him to flinch.

“So…I’m gonna need some clothes,” I said, pulling my bra back down to cover my breasts.

He winked. “I have a shirt with your name on it.”

Chapter 12

Snail running team. Shell yeah!

-T-shirt

Reese

“I’m keeping this shirt, you know,” I said as I scanned my cell phone. It was the only other thing I had with me besides the clothes on my back and my house key.

I don’t know what I was expecting to find when I started flipping through it. Okay, well I did know what I’d hoped. I hoped that my ex had called to tell me he’d changed his mind about Rowen.

The only thing that made this better was that I knew Rowen loved her father. That she’d be happy with the situation.

However, her love was bought. It wasn’t true love like I had for Rowen. Rowen’s love for me was selfless. She’d love me even if I never bought her another thing.

She loved me because our love was forged over endless nights of no sleep. Of me rocking her when she was a baby. Of cuddling and watching limitless amounts of princess movies. Staying up at night with her when she was running a high fever.

The love of a mother for her child was unconditional.

“We’ll see,” Luke said as he followed me into the kitchen.

I looked down at the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup shirt he’d handed me that morning, and smiled. It was perfect.

I grinned over my shoulder at him. “There’s no question. It’s mine.”

“You know,” Luke mused, sidling up behind me. Kissing me on the neck where his shirt fell from one shoulder, he said, “A man’s shirt on a woman’s naked body is like raising a flag on a conquered fortress.”

Oh, I’d say he conquered it all right. Thoroughly.

After our first time on the car, he went on to repeat it three more times throughout the night.

Now it was within minutes of the last time in the shower, and I was deliciously sore in places I didn’t even know could be sore.

I also was fairly sure that my vagina would never recover from the pounding it’d been taking throughout the night.

“I would concur. You’ve most definitely conquered Mount Reese,” I teased.

He chuckled against my neck, giving me a soft kiss on the cord of my exposed neck before letting go and walking to the coffee pot.

“Want some?” He asked, raising up the pot.

I shook my head. “I don’t drink coffee. Do you have any hot chocolate?”

He shook his head.

“Chocolate milk?”

He shook his head again.

“Chocolate syrup?” I tried.

He shook his head again, smiling now.

“Well what the hell do you have?” I asked in exasperation.

He opened the fridge. “Beer. V-8 Juice. Protein shakes. And milk.”

I scrunched my nose. “What does Katy drink?”

He shrugged. “Water or milk.”

My mouth gaped open. “No Juice…or tea…or chocolate milk?”

He shook his head. “I don’t let her have that kind of stuff. She usually eats pretty healthy.”

I shook my head. Wow.

“So do you ever get her donuts…or Little Debbies?” I asked.

He shrugged. “She doesn’t know that they exist, so she doesn’t ask for them. I don’t eat like that; she shouldn’t either.”

I wanted to cry for her. What child had never experienced the world of donuts?

“I bet she knows what they are, but knows you won’t buy them for her. She probably has other ways of getting them,” I explained.

I mean, there was no possible way that a child just didn’t know that donuts existed. She saw them other places. For instance, other kids I knew had them in their lunches at school

I packed Rowen’s lunch, and she never went without something sweet of some sort. Whether it was cookies, snack cakes, fruit snacks. I know that it’s not healthy, but come on, a child has to live!

“I’m not saying that she’s never been exposed to it. I’m saying that she’s never eaten it. She doesn’t know what she’s missing,” he clarified.
