I was still shirtless, but my pants were in place.

Rynn?

Completely fucking bare.

Just how I wanted her.

“Water or beer?” I asked, holding a selection of each out.

“Duh,” she said, taking the beer, then taking a long sip. “Okay. What did you bring?”

“Well, there’s no cheddar popcorn…” I started.

“Bummer,” she said, but her lips were turned up. Not enough to see those fucking dimples of hers, but hinting at them.

I handed her one of Eddie’s famous sandwiches—toasted rye with fresh romaine, tomatoes, some sort of honey-dijon-mayo sauce, bacon, roast beef, and swiss.

“Where did you get this?” Rynn asked after taking a bite with a moan, her long legs stretched out in front of her to use them as a serving tray for her food.

“Eddie, a friend of the club, likes to cook. We like to let him.”

“He made you sandwiches? Like… he packed you lunch? That’s really fucking cute,” she declared before taking another bite.

“We also have homemade potato chips,” I told her, producing the bag.

“No way,” she said, mouth falling open a bit. “Wait… why are some red?”

“Because Eddie thinks we need more vegetables in our diet, I’m assuming,” I said. “They’re probably beet or something,” I told her, watching her nose wrinkle. “No, trust me, they’re gonna be good,” I told her, holding one of the beet ones out for her to try.

She didn’t take it, just leaned in and let me push it into her mouth.

“Okay. Fine. They’re good. Out of curiosity… can Eddie be hired? For events? Private events? With one customer? But said customer has a notoriously large appetite?” she asked, and this time the smile showed her dimples.

“Eddie would cook for you anytime,” I told her. “All you gotta do is drop by the clubhouse.”

There.

An invitation.

Now it was just up to her to take me up on it.

CHAPTER TWELVE

Rynn

“Soooo… how’d it go?” Josie asked, nearly making me jump out of my skin as I walked into the office, not expecting her to be there. I’d given her the day off.

But, of course, she knew I would drop in to at least feed Binx and clean the litter box. So she was lying in wait, ready to pounce.

“Christ, Josie,” I said, hand to my heart.

“Come on. I’ve been sitting here for, like, two hours already. How was it? Was it amazing? You look flushed. It was that good?” she asked, practically bouncing in her seat.

I raised my hand to my cheek, feeling the over-sensitivity of it.

“It’s sunburn,” I admitted. Cato had told me as much as he walked me to my car at the end of the… date.

I mean… you had to call that a date, right?

An activity, some food, amazing sex.

It sure seemed like a date.

Even if I was decidedly not a dating sort of girl.

“You went in the sun for him?” she asked, eyes going almost comically round.

I mean, I wasn’t fucking allergic to the sun or anything, but I did tend to stay out of it whenever possible. That was why I was generally so pale.

If my cheeks were burnt, I was a bit worried about what I would find when I stripped out of my clothes later and looked in the mirror.

I’d never had a titty sunburn, but it sounded awful.

“He took me kayaking in alligator-infested waters,” I told her.

Alright, fine. We were out there for hours, and we’d only seen that one alligator who seemed completely disinterest in eating us. But still.

“You went out in the sun and exercised for him?” Josie asked, growing more incredulous by the moment.

“No. He did the paddling. I did the sitting and alligator-watching.”

“You were gone for a long time. Were you kayaking that whole time?”

“No. We found a dock and had lunch there,” I told her. “And sex,” I added. Because it was true. And because Josie wouldn’t be scandalized about that fact.

“That must have been gorgeous,” she decided. “And kind of forbidden.”

“There wasn’t anyone around, but yeah. It probably added to the heat of things.”

Though, objectively, we didn’t need any outward factors to get a fire going between us.

I mean, my thighs were aching from the sex. I don’t think my thighs had ever ached from sex before.

“Are you going to see him again?” Josie asked, cutting through all the bullshit.

“He invited me to drop into the clubhouse whenever I want to force some guy named Eddie there to cook for me.”

“Right. Because this Eddie guy is why you’d want to go there,” she said, rolling her pretty eyes. “Come onnn, Rynn. Give me something here,” she demanded, following me as I went to the couch and dropped down, feeling drained.

The sun and the sex had proven too much.

All I wanted to do was go home and take a nap.

“You like him, don’t you?” she asked, hugging a witch hat shaped pillow to her chest as she looked at my profile.
