An odd gleam in his eyes shone as he murmured, “You don’t need to worry. Grey has her covered.”

Planting my hand on my hip, I glared up at him. “Are you sure she’s safe with him? The text she sent me said he basically kidnapped her when she came back from skiing.”

His deep chuckle sent a delicious shiver down my spine. “Grey will do whatever it takes to ensure nobody lays a finger on her as long as he’s by her side.”

I was relieved that my best friend had someone watching her back since I felt awful for pulling her into my dad’s mess. And ruining her holiday, along with mine.

Cash surprised me over the next two days, giving me room to come to terms with the things my dad had done while taking care of me. He made sure I ate, didn’t complain about the endless stream of holiday movies I zoned out to in the living room, and made the best hot chocolate I’d ever tasted. With marshmallows and whipped cream.

He was the only person I saw or spoke to since he’d arrived, and I was relieved that he didn’t seem to mind that I wasn’t up to talking about anything other than the snowy weather, food, and movies. I was content in our little bubble, so it came as a shock when he faced off with me in the kitchen when we finished our breakfast the morning after Christmas.

“We’re leaving today, sunshine.”

My brows drew together as I asked, “Is that guy on his way here?”

“There’s been no sign that he’s tracked you here yet, but we can’t stay here forever. I need to get you to the compound, where there’s zero chance of Bickle getting his hands on you.”

If we didn’t need to leave for safety reasons, then I wasn’t going to make this easy on him. Leaning back in my seat, I crossed my arms and shook my head. “No, I’m not ready yet.”

Getting to his feet, Cash circled the small table and leaned over me, pressing his hands against the table and back of my chair to cage me in. “I get that being here for Christmas was important to you. I gave you that, but now you’ve had more time to come to terms with what’s happening. Staying a couple more days isn’t gonna help you understand. We’re leaving today.”

I learned that he meant what he said when he tossed me over his shoulder after hauling my stuff to his rental truck.

Karina was still fuming when we drove through the gate and parked near the front door. She’d stewed all the way to the airport, on the plane, and the drive home. I was a little surprised she hadn’t blown up yet. All that repressed emotion would need to be released eventually. I knew the perfect way for her to work out all that aggression, but she wasn’t ready for me to strip her bare and fuck her until she couldn’t move.

She hopped out of the truck and put her hands on her hips, glancing all around her. I opened the back door on the cab of the truck and tossed her carry-on over my shoulder. I figured I’d come back for her other stuff after I got her settled in my room.

“Sunshine,” I growled to get her attention. She turned narrowed eyes on me, and I tilted my head toward a path that led to the clubhouse front door. I waited for her to march past me, then followed her, my eyes glued to her spectacular ass.

When we reached the front door, she slammed it open and stomped inside. I ambled in after her, trying not to give away the tension that gripped me when I saw how many brothers had their eyes on my girl.

“I want to speak to whoever is in charge!” Karina demanded loudly, planting her hands on her hips and darting her gaze around the large lounge.

“Relax, sunshine,” I muttered. “You’ll get your questions answered, just like I promised. For now, let’s get you settled.”

I knew Mac would want to meet first to go over everything that had happened and talk about next steps.

So I was grateful when Cat, our VP’s old lady, came out from behind the bar and sauntered over to us with a welcoming smile.

“You must be Karina,” she said with a wink. “I’m Cat, your tour guide and safety director. If you follow me, I’ll take you to your room.” Before turning away, Cat shot me a questioning glance, silently asking me if she should take my girl to my room. I nodded, and she started talking to Karina as she led her away.

I watched them until they’d disappeared up the stairs, then the outraged voice of another tiny woman drew my attention away when she stalked over to me with a thunderous expression.
