I’m just enjoying having my mate so close to me. Her scent is divine. It’s heavenly. It’s sacred. I can’t stop breathing it in and letting it fill my lungs.

My cock gets rock hard with her so close, but she pretends not to notice even though I keep catching her stealing quick glances at it.

She wraps her hands around her now red sweater and holds it in place. She looks so hot when she’s concentrating. Her eyebrows bunch up and her mouth does this little pouty thing that is getting me going even more.

My eyes slowly drop to her neck and my bear lets out a groan when I land on the spot that is destined for our mark. Every shifter has to mark their mate and I’m going to mark her one day. Right there.

The impatient furry asshole inside of me wants me to do it right now and he’s making his intentions clear with every growl, snap, and snarl he gives me as he paces around angrily.

Mark her, he growls.

Do it.

I can’t. Not now. She’ll be terrified of me after and I can’t have that. I want our mark on her just as badly, but he’s just going to have to wait. No matter how much he whines and complains.

She instinctively touches the spot under her ear and looks up at me with her eyes shining.

She knows even if she doesn’t. Her body knows what it wants and it wants me.

“You’re beautiful,” I whisper to her. “Absolutely fucking stunning.”

Her cheeks go even pinker and she looks away shyly.

“Let’s just get this arm fixed up before you start hitting on me. Okay?”

I laugh. “I’m not making any promises. You look too good. Why are you so dressed up? Were you at work?”

Picturing my mate around other men is getting my blood boiling. I hate that her male coworkers can look at her whenever they want. They can stare at her ass as she walks away in her tight skirt or stare at her tits while she’s concentrating at the computer.

“Are you okay?” She has a concerned look on her face as she watches me. “You’re breathing so heavily. Your body is all tight.”

“I’m fine,” I say before taking a deep breath. All of that’s changed now. She’s under my protection and I’m not about to let any man leer at what’s mine.

“I wasn’t at work,” she says after a long pause. “I was looking for work. I’m new in town.”

“And those guys started following you?”

She tenses up a bit at the mention of the men and I hate myself for bringing it up and ruining the moment.

“Yeah. The wind blew up my skirt and they saw. That’s when they started following me.”

“They saw?” I’m trying to control the snarls fighting to rip out of me, but it’s hard. They saw under her skirt? They saw what belongs to me? I want to kill them. I should have snapped their necks when I had the chance.

I glance in the rearview mirror, wanting to turn around and go find them to take their eyes for looking at my mate’s private parts.

“They saw what exactly?” I feel like I’m about to snap.

“My underwear,” she says and it makes me feel a little bit better. Not much though. At least she wasn’t naked under there. “They followed me into the alley and one grabbed me. I sprayed hair spray into his eyes and ran into the street. That’s when I saw you.”

She fought back and sprayed hair spray into his eyes? I love her already.

“Thank you for saving me,” she says as she looks up at me with her glorious brown eyes. “I don’t want to think about what would have happened if…”

“It wouldn’t have happened,” I tell her with a force in my voice that gets her attention. “You’re mine, Willow. I’ll always protect you. I’ll always be there for you. Always.”

She looks at me for a long moment without saying a word and then her eyes drop to my arm.

“We have to get you to a hospital,” she finally says.

I shake my head. “I’ll be fine,” I say as I start to feel the tingling increasing now that my shifter healing is working double-time. “Take a look at it.”

She sucks in a breath as she carefully and reluctantly lifts up the sweater.

“It’s not bleeding anymore,” she says with a gasp. “How is that possible?”

“Shifter healing. Once it gets going, it heals pretty fast.”

“Oh,” she says as she peels off her ruined sweater and drops it on the floor of my truck.

“I’ll buy you another one,” I promise. I’ll buy her anything she wants for the rest of her life. There’s nothing I won’t do for this girl. She has no idea…

I probably should have told her that it would heal on its own before she ruined her sweater, but I didn’t want to stop her from taking her clothes off. I always want the least amount of clothes between us as possible.
