Another growl came from his throat. “I don’t believe you.”

“I promise.”

“You’ve promised before.”

“Just give me five minutes. I’ll get the caps and show you. Stay here.” I crossed my fingers, headed to the bedroom, and searched through my bag, flinging my things onto my bed.

My nerves flared with anxiety. I couldn’t hear anything from the other room.

He probably already left.

I quickly moved my hands around my bag’s lining. The tiny velvet box tickled my fingertips.

Yes.

I seized it.

Before I could turn around, Azar appeared behind me and pressed his body into mine, drowning me in his earthy scent.

The gold caps fit on my fangs with ease. I let my tongue glide over their flat surface as Azar spun me around and snatched my wig off, flinging it across the room.

Shivering, I looked up. “I asked you to stay in the other room.”

No humor moved over his face. “Show me the caps.”

I opened my mouth.

He studied the caps.

I closed my mouth when he turned his gaze back to my eyes.

“I got the caps for you.”

“Why?”

“To show you that I could be trusted.”

“I’ll never trust you.”

“Then, test me.”

“Test you how, hunter? By ripping your skin off your body strip by strip.”

I widened my eyes. “Test me by. . .”

He raised his eyebrows.

“By kissing me.”

Chapter 5

The Test

Fatou

Azar still looked pissed. “Your test is a kiss?”

I shivered. “Yes.”

“Hmmm.”

“I. . .I’ll do anything you want if you can help me grab the Boto Brothers.”

“I could make you do anything regardless.”

I blinked.

“You may have bad fashion sense, but you’re entertaining.”

I quirked my brows.

“And I’ve been wanting to taste those lips since I first smelled you in the night club.”

Excitement hit me. My heart slammed in my chest.

“And why would I trust you this time, hunter?”

“Because you have nothing to lose.”

“I have my freedom to lose.”

“I’ve already established that it’s not my intention to give you to Adae.”

“And this isn’t a trap?”

“Adae has a hard on for you. There is nothing he wouldn’t do to get you in his grasp. He would have already been here.”

“Hmmm.”

“Kiss me, Azar.”

Heat filled those brown eyes. His pupils expanded and reddened until there was only a fine brown ring left in each iris. He was an animal looking at prey. His demonic magic, rich and heavy with desire, flickered across my skin.

Lust began to swamp me. Open up my senses. Drown me.

And I didn’t know if it was my body’s true reaction or Azar working me with his magic.

I slid my tongue over my lips and heard him groan.

He slipped his gaze over my curves and then settled it on my breasts.

The lust that bombarded me made me tremble. I was so close to just grabbing him, and kissing him.

But I didn’t move. I didn’t want to give him the satisfaction of knowing that I’d been affected by his magic.

“Perhaps, a test is in order.” Azar moved his big hand my way, gripped my waist, and pulled me to him. With the other hand, he stroked my cheek, delivering heated swirls throughout my body. “You won’t get any other chances with me.”

Trembling, I looked up at him. “I know that.”

“Don’t make me kill you, Fatou.”

“I won’t.”

He leaned down to me, pressing his lips onto mine.

Oh.

His lips were softer than I anticipated, and his mouth pulsated with energy. Heat spread down my body and swirled between my legs.

Oh.

Parting my lips, I grew more and more helpless and needy for him.

His kiss glided against my lips, unveiling sensations and anticipation I’d never felt before. His tongue entered my mouth filling it with a spice that reminded me of the Middle East. His hands cupped my ass, squeezing and making me moan.

I put my hands up to his shoulders, wanting to feel his tongue inside of me. I pressed my breasts against his chest, feeling his heart.

I inhaled his scent. It was an intoxicating fragrance that I couldn’t place.

He smelled like an exotic jungle of pleasure. It was a strange mixture of spicy and rich, musky and sweet. The scent was everything, yet nothing at all—cinnamon and blackberries, smoky woods on a cool ocean breeze, ripe strawberries dancing between floating dandelions, wet earth surrounded by burnt cloves.

All I knew was that images of fucking played in my mind, just from his smell.

A low growl left him.

Startled, I leaned away from his lips.

“I like those caps.” He kissed me, sliding his tongue across my lips. His mouth was electric. Tantalizing. Stimulating my body in every way.

And I wondered if I would be able to stand the pressure that was building inside of me. I wanted to trust him, but I didn’t know if it would be wise. I could feel that inch of space that separated our bodies, and it was all that kept me from falling apart under his touch.

It was odd, but I instantly craved the taste of his lips.
